Try this EG. Go into your profile, select Preferences, then check the Time Zone setting, about 3/4 of the way down the page

Re: are Owls stupid as often claimed?

Post  littlewid on Wed Nov 30, 2011 6:02 pm

Welcome to the site EG/Ian, it is great to have you here. I have just been reading through this post and i'm loving all the owl information. Sage is such a beautiful Owl. I am never sure on who owns who when you have an Owl but my guess is Sage own you Very Happy but you must feel very proud to have such a beautiful Owl.
I am certainly no expert on owls and have never owned one, I have met a few and I would never call them daft, stupid or dumb; you only have to look into their eyes to realise how intelligent they are.
I read a book at the begining of the year called Wesley. It is about a Barn Owl that was raised by a human from four days old. The author of the book is Stacey O'Brien, a biologist in America. She told the story of Wesleys life with her. For me it was an amazing read and a great insight into looking after a Barn Owl. He was an owl that could not be released back into the wild.
I do not know much about Eurasian Owls so will enjoy looking at your web site and learning more. I also look forward to seeing more pictures of Sage.
Again welcome to the site.

very kind post

Post  Eurasian Guy on Wed Nov 30, 2011 7:52 pm

thank you very much, i do find it not only a pleasure having sage share our life but an honour, she is robustly independent, only a few minutes ago i wanted to change her anklets & new jesses normally with raptors you use a device to restrain their wings sage would not tolerate this for 1 second so Kate my other half had to play with her to distract her so i could do it without upsetting her.
as you are an animal love i am sure you will find the eagle owl section of my site fascinating as i am sure you will see things which surprise you.
thanks again for your kind words.
Ian p.s let me know what you think. i will be uploading some pictures after the 7 day rule thing.

EG - good one!

We were in a room overlooking the lagoon, with a wonderful big tree outside and a veranda. The tree had regular visitors, monkeys, baboons, kingfishers and a Yellow Billed Kite, we had buffalo, hippo and a large variety of birds all outside - but NO DOORS (that squeaked)!

Re: are Owls stupid as often claimed?

EG just had a quick look at your site. I am so in love with Sage, what a stunning girl she is and Oh My how cute is she in the BGT video I love you she looked as if she was bopping to the music on the TV with the dancers. I wasn't surprised to see all the newspapers around as I have heard that owls can be very messy. I plan to read the section on the Eurasian Owls to learn more.
I have a Black Cocker Spaniel called nero, he is three and like yours is typical of the breed, loving, friendly and nutty but a more adorable dog would be hard to find. Let us know how Tia goes with the pups.
I don't have any rabbits at the moment but I have had house rabbits and I am a huge rabbit fan and I just love Jasmins hutch, I bet she is the envy of many rabbits.
I have two Semi Longhaired American Maine Coons, one boy named Tiga and one girl named Splodge and a very sweet Black domestic Shorthair called Sparkles. Dillon is adorable, so handsome, who's his friend?
I imagine they all give you an enormous amount of pleasure and having so many animals around just enriches your life doesn't it.
I will get around to reading all about the owls very soon but it's a lovely site you have there EG.

bird poo

Post  Eurasian Guy on Sun Dec 04, 2011 7:40 pm

Hi littlewid
Thank you for your lovely reply, yes our lives are enriched I find myself increasingly drawn more to animals than to people as that brings less disappointment. Dillon’s friend in the picture (cat) was our Blue eyed snow spotted bengal first she came home with a 22 pellet stuck in her face then she went missing I think I know who was responsible but I cannot prove it so that’s that.
Sage is great, I am sure the eagle owl section will surprise you I will keep adding other info & pictures as & when I can capture the moment even owl people who know about owls will find it informative backed up by pictures by way of confirmation.
When you describe your cocker you could be describing ours & I guess that is why they are so popular, we have been reassured that eventually she will calm down……………………………………in 10 or 15 years? But then I wouldn’t want her any other way.
Jasmine the Rabbit is more my other half’s, as a child she also had a house rabbit but I am not so convinced because of the toilet habits although she says it used a littler tray, sage sits over a waterproof sheet with newspaper over it, her mess is usually clear & without odour although 1 in 10 will be brown & smelly whenever she messes we just change the paper immediately, we could not put up with living in squalid conditions we just keep on top of it minute by minute.
Best wishes.
