Time for a change? Empty Time for a change?

Idea brought on by other threads about the pressures being put on habitat and species by mankind.
The world is seriously over populated, less food to go round for people and animals, death in both camps by starvation, isn't it time for a rethink?
Charities keep asking on television for money to save people in starving countries and it just keeps happening year after year,we are having no effect whatsoever.
Maybe the Chineese idea of restricting families to one child to try and reduce the population would be a better idea.

This conversation is open to so many things TB and I am sure there will be lots of different ideas.
Do you mean world wide only one child per family? I can see the reasoning behind that, it would reduce the population without a doubt but I can also see many issues with that as well. I am not an only child and would have not liked to have been one, I have enjoyed my siblings and we have learnt from each other and some of those lessons have been, tolerance, patience and sharing plus consideration. My brother died at the age of 21 and I know it was my sister and I that kept my parents going and gave them some hope for the future, that may not have happened if we hadn't been around.

I have always said that it's not just the knee jerk reaction of feeding the starving that is required. Many countries come charging in with aid which is very reactive but it is the long term that also needs planning for and that comes with funds and education and also family planning education. They require help with managing to sustain their lives with farming and also ways of generating income for the future. I am not sure what their spiritual beliefs are with regards children; maybe they would be susceptable to family planning but it may be a case of they have children because many children die under the age of 5. We can't just impose our beliefs on them without understanding their spiritual beliefs.

Many of these countries suffer dreadful drought and that no-one has control over but we could help with water tanks and water purification systems which I know a lot of the big charities put a lot of work into, but maybe some of the big money tycoons could help out a bit more.

Cattle is also another issue for the starving. Many of their cattle die due to drought or predation, so more effort is needed to help them sustain their cattle and funds to help secure their cattle.

Many other issues I can think of and I agree we cant just keep throwng money in a crisis fashion. I agree we need to help with the crisis but we also need to put more into education and monitoring that they are trying to input and sustain the help given to them.

If we could help them make for a better future that was safer, more prosperous and reduce their death rate due to infection, that may have a knock on effect in the amount of children they have because their childrens future could possibly be healthier without the threat of such an early death.
What they need is a lot more hope in their lives thats backed up with solid sustainable support.

Thats my take on it. Interesting topic TB.

I'm one of three brothers and I'm the father of two children, but can the earth sustain this sort of level for ever?I was born soon after the second world war, when the government of the day decided to help families grow and replace the lives that had been lost.Family allowance,or whatever it's called, should that really be being paid in todays situation?
People are living longer and we will need a young society to look after them,so clearly we can't wipe out a generation, but can we do nothing?
As wildlife watchers we are seeing the effect on wildlife, how long before major famine in humans in places like India, where the population is exploding?Wildlife is on it's knees, will we follow?

Again there are lots of issues there TB and some of them political and socioeconomic I believe which I don't really want to get into on here. It is hard to see famine around the world and wildlife suffering and some to the point of extinction. Man does have a lot to answer for but some is out of our control ie drought etc. I still believe education is a key player for a sustainable future and also respect. Man needs to gain more respect for the wonders of the living planet and by that I mean more respect of fellow human beings and the wildlife that shares our world. Harmony is something that often gets forgotten and I wish we could live more harmoniously.

yes it is time to change..

humans must learn to love in harmony with nature...the nature do not belong to us,but we belong to the nature..hence we need to respect each and every living entity around us....there is a reson for everything that happen in nature,if we live in harmony with nature even natural calamities can be minimized, atleast that is wht i feel :)

I Agree Radhu - but sadly mankinds greed doesn't allow for this. One day we will realise this, but let's hope it isn't too late when we do.

My sentiments as well Rudhu. Nature will always find its own balance, if it was'nt for the interference of mankind
