Re: Camera trap photos
We saw the vixen last night around 11.15pm she watched us drive by and then ran off into the woods, very close to our house and in the close vicinity of her den.
Tomorrow morning i've arranged to go and check out the den and hopefully the cubs with someone who knows where they are.
Will keep you posted, and may try and put up the camera trap on the route the vixen takes, I don't want to disturb the cubs.

Re: Camera trap photos
I was showed the little wood where the vixen and her cubs are, although we didn't see them.
Getting there over some barbed wire you guessed it I ripped my trousers, sadly I didn't notice until I went to the ladies in M & S after having coffee with my mum, huge laughter from me when I realised and great amusement from the other ladies in there, a small part of my b** spent the morning being on display :tmi:
Anyway, I've just been out and set up the cam trap not too close to the wood but where the vixen goes through the field and into the large wood, hopefully it will catch the vixen going in and out. I'm going to leave it for a couple of days and then check it. I'm not sure I have it in the best position, but this is all trial and error with me.

Re: Camera trap photos
Lai hope you did'nt drop anything in M&S having to bend over tp pick it up would have been a bit of a .
Camera traps are a bit of hit, and miss even for the experts like Gorden Buchanan who uses then a lot, you can only try to position, where you think an Animals route is, then if you get nothing try a different location. I'm sure you'll get the Vixen in the end.

Re: Camera trap photos
Lai if you manage to get them on your camera trap the rip in your trousers and the B*M exposure will be well worth it I don't blame you leaving it for a few days either before you check the cam, don't want to go disturbing those cubs now, but Oh , how exciting it all is........still about your trousers......sorry

Re: Camera trap photos
They were an old pair so no loss just seriously funny - and no WS thankfully i didn't bend over and expose more of my b**
You are so right about camera traps, I'm just being impatient, I can't wait to see what happens. Pete and I are going to the wood tomorrow evening to see if we can see the cubs with our binos.

Lai if it was me I would be just as impatient even though I would know it's best to be patient, but I too would be out there with my binos. Fingers crossed you do get to see them and we will just be patient with the camera trap.

Re: Camera trap photos
A really short clip but it means I'm in the right place for the vixen coming into the woods
Tomorrow I'll go back and set up again but I need to cut away some of the grass, it kept tripping the camera trap so lots of blank clips as well!

Re: Camera trap photos
Brilliant that you are in the right place for the vixen Lai
Sadly I tried both videos but they just come up with "This video is private" and they wont play, so not sure what you need to do to be able to let us watch them.....WS may know.

Re: Camera trap photos
You need to go back to your You Tube channel, and reset the settings to allow public viewing for the two videos. If your not sure how let me know

Re: Camera trap photos
apologies for that - done in haste and I forgot to check that.
I've changed them both to public so hope they work - very short clips one of the vixen and one of another visitor.

Re: Camera trap photos
I think your doing just fine Lai. Those are lovely photos from the cam trap and I love the little clip. She is beautiful isn't she, she looks quite healthy, I just wish she had sat still for longer in that little clip
Looking forward to more pics and footage

Re: Camera trap photos
I dont think there's a lot you can do Lai, you can only position the cam, where it will get a view of the subject, and it was great to see her, and the clip even if it was short

Re: Camera trap photos
I think I can extend the length of the time it records but the batteries are flat so once I replace them I will put the cam trap out again, I think I'll just use it on video as when it's set for both it takes the photo first then the clip and by the time the clip starts the animal/bird has moved.
I've been told by the person who showed me where the den is that there is another vixen visiting so probably related and that the cubs are all well and out and about. He's seen them this week, sadly Pete and I saw nothing when we went for a look probably made too much noise

Re: Camera trap photos
What no ???
Pete and I went out yesterday afternoon and put the trap on a tree at the edge of the copse, we are hoping now that the cubs are bigger and bolder they might pass by. I also put out a few raisins, so we'll see. I plan to leave it there until Wednesday to give it a chance.
Fingers crossed someone visits!

Re: Camera trap photos
There are 4 cubs and 2 vixens, although I've not seen them the person who showed me where they are has photos and clips of them all. He's a lot more patient than me and oftens sits and watches them in the evening.
I'm hopeful for something this week, but not sure how old they are or when they will leave the den so need to get a move on.
Less from me now and more

Re: Camera trap photos
Not a good spot for the cam trap. The bunnies hopped to and fro and the magpie loved the raisins.
The foxes just a quick pass through - different day but same spot. The camera is telling the wrong time at the moment and the batteries are flat again. It took over 60 clips so needs recharging!
I might go back to Kingfishers!
