Sad news about George, he will be missed by many who have seen him I am sure. As they say he was really in his prime so it makes it more of a shame he has died.

RIP George I love you

It really is sad about George, he was the last of the line. If I remember right they tried a mating a bit ago, but unfortunatly it did'nt work, and now the chance has gone forever Sad

In todays Telegraph it looks as though George may not be gone forever. I didn't realise they did this to try and save many animals that are near extinction. I am not sure how I feel about it but part of me hopes it works for George.

I am not sure about this. I can't decide sometimes whether we humans are trying to play God too much.

It's tragic that George died being the last of his kind but cloning scares me - it leads to so much more.

I am with you guy's, I have mixed feelings too, on the one hand it would kind of be nice as George never got the chance to mate but as you say Lai, does man try to play god too much sometimes and is it just the natural course of events that some animals die out............and by that I mean naturally die out not because man has greedily killed them all. It's a tough one isn't it.

Lonesome george RIP

had read in the newspaper about him ! sad that he couldn't have his genes passed on Sad

the ones of his kind was hunted to extinction for meat !

time to go veg to stop such incidents
strange that people eat anything they see be it a turtle, frog or snake

I have been a veggie for many many years Radhu.....I can't get my head around eating animals at all. I know that is what humans are designed to do but for me, no thanks.....I would rather see a species doing what it should be doing rather than see it on my plate What a Face

I do accept that everyone is different and has different views Very Happy

really appreciate that LW :)

its true as u said i would love to see a deer in a forest rather than in my plate :)

it make sense to let every living being live, humans are built as omnivorous we have a choice to go complete veggie unlike a tiger or a lion..

so when a carnivorous animal kill a deer it is acceptable not not when a human do because we have a choice :)

i know my argument is crazy but i beleave in it :)

No I like your arguement Radhu Very Happy especially as gone are the days when all the animals that were originally killed for meat were cows, pigs, chickens & sheep, well in the western world it was mainly those animals but now people are becoming more adventurous in their taste or zest to try other things and more and more animals are being killed soley for the meat trade.

If we want to preserve animals we do have a choice not to eat them, but then that goes for the world as a whole and some of their strange beliefs/traditions for eating animals.

I know there are arguements that Farmers will go out of business and man is designed to eat meat and can't function/grow/develop without it but I believe we can.

Nature as you say is a different matter and some will argue that it is for man as well.
