Web Cams of Africa
This thread contains links to Web Cams in Africa, located at different sites
Pete's Pond is a waterhole on Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana, Africa. It is a famous webcam that began on National Geographic's wildcam and is now hosted and operated by WildEarth. A great variety of wildlife will come to drink at the pond including herds of elephant, eland, impala, lions, warthogs, baboons and many more.
There are two links to Petes Pond one form the host WildEarth TV, and one on Ustream. Ustream is the most popular for chatting about the Pond and its animals the members call themselves Pondies

It overlooks Gowrie Dam, This camera is one of the longest running waterhole cameras in Africa and in particular during the dry season often home to leopards or lions coming for a drink or elephants coming for a swim. The camera is now remotely controlled around the clock, archived 24/7

Re: Web Cams of Africa
Thanks for the nudge on this WS. Its a good idea to have the cams in one place, much easier to find them all. I still need to try and download Mwsnap on this tablet to take pictures, when I triedbefore ot wasnt happening but I will have to give it another go and keep more of an eye on the cams, maybe I should set aside a cam evening when I can sort out Mwsnap. Thanks for sorting the cams into one place though.....very good idea

Re: Web Cams of Africa
After WS has sorted this thread for us I thought I would also remind everyone that you can subscribe to Africam and get their exclusive video clips on Youtube. They are very good and short clips that show what was happening that day on the cams.
The current one is
EXCLUSIVE VIDEO
A leopard mother faces the dangers of leaving her cub alone in order to hunt and find food for them both.

Re: Web Cams of Africa
Those were two brilliant clips WS, they are quite comical when they start using their trunk arent they but so cute at the same time. I loved the clip of playing in the mud, I could just have kept watching him. Wnether they be big or small eles they just fascinate don't they.
That was a great clip from Africam Lai, very dodgy to leave her cub alone with all those wild dogs around. What about all that camera clicking that was going on, mega noisy! I tried signing up for the videos but it said it was having trouble with connecting me to youtude, do you need a youtube account?

Re: Web Cams of Africa
There was drama at Petes Pond Saturday night. A Jackal family chased a young male Impala into the Pond, it stayed in the middle for quite some time clearly hoping they would go awa, and leave it alone. Sadly the Jackals were going nowhere, and waited for it to come out. It did make a couple of attempts getting to the side, but as soon as the Jackals moved it went back in. it was eventualy getting to cold for it to stay in the water, on the third attempt it got on the rocks, and you could see the cold had got to it, it was quite wobbly on its legs. It waited for the Jackals to move in then made a desperate dash across the front of them unfortunately one was waiting, and brought it down.
This clip is not especialy graphic, and it was over quite quickly, but if you are of a sensative nature please do'nt watch

Re: Web Cams of Africa
No problem Lai I quite understand anyone not wanting to watch, thats why I put the Warning on, but I was watching, and it happened, and its life in the wild in Africa, so I recorded it.
So on a happier note, with good news, a glimpse of an old friend
Karula and Cub Djuma Sept 9 2013

Aaaahhhhh so lovely to see Karula again WS, she is such a special Leopard mum and I haven't seen her for ages so that was a real treat and her cub isnt much smaller than her. Hopefully next time they catch her it will be during the day, she has such a lovely face, Karula is a pretty Leopard.
Thanks so much for posting that WS.

Re: Web Cams of Africa
Well thats just made my Saturday WS, How lovely to see them all together, the cubs are quite big aren't they and thats all down to Karula, she is a magnificent mum. I wonder if they are only managing to capture them at night at the moment as she used to be about during the day when we first started watching her. Anyway, whatever, I am just chuffed to see her and her cubs, thanks for that WS.
