Give it time GR. I'm sure you'll get some soon. When LW first put her feeders up she had to wait for ages for Birds to turn up, but they did eventualy.
Wild gardens are good for wildlife GR.
But there's no need to go over the top

The Bird on the neighbours fence was proberbly checking the feeder out GR, Birds will do that for a time as they assess if its safe to feed there.

Close but no cigar.

It has comeback there at least another time too (that I've seen, so probably multiple times), so it's good signs that it is checking out the feast :)

Hi GR
WS is right, it took me ages to get any birds eating from my feeder, I had all sorts hanging from it and it seemed like weeks before anyone came to eat and it was really tasty stuff out there for them. I think WS is right that they need to feel confident to land and stay and eat and not get chased off by a cat or other bigger birds. After a few weeks my feeder was getting mobbed and it was hard to keep up with them, so just be patient and they will start feeding and then you will get enormous pleasure at seeing them feed and you will start to spot regular birds.
If you want a tip and don't mind making your own, birds love fat balls and home made ones are much better and tastier than the shop brought ones. WS gave us the recipe from the home made ones Mrs S makes and I can tell you, you will have trouble keeping up with the birds. WS will correct me if this recipe is wrong on the amounts but I do tend to now just lob it all together.

I pack of Lard
2 cups of flour.....plain
a little water
Then add the tasty stuff
Raisins
peanuts
mixed fruit
meal worms
seed
Roll into balls in your hand and then put them in the fridge to harden off then either put them in a fat ball holder or on a bird table or try or if you have ground feeders you can put them on a feeder on the ground.

The birds love them and they are full of goodness and so easy and cheap to make.

Don't worry about the weeds, i'm sure it doesn't matter to the birds and I bet they love it a little rural anyway.

Cigars; perhaps if I had high society birds

Thanks for the recipe LW. It might actually inspire me to do some rare cooking!

Late yesterday the same bird flew onto the fence, and then actually made it onto the feeder! But it only spent about ten seconds there, and didn't actually try any food. It was too busy on the lookout. Like you guys say, they need to feel confident about it first before staying and eating.

GR being flocked by non feathered birds: Man, this place is just becoming full of myths Laughing

I think the problem is that my royal blood isn't known. So what I need to do is get my hands on some of these gyrfalcons - they are known as birds of societies upperclass - and send them out as messagers. To all the beautiful ladies of the land they will leave a note;

Handsome prince, is in your midst

But actually I think I have found my niche; interacting with older women. So I am imagining myself as a real stud - a true alpha male - in a retirement village, approximately fifty years from now
