Iguanas and crabs - Galapagos April 2013
A few photos of the iguanas and crabs on Galapagos. An Iguana really is the most prehistoric creature I have ever seen. There are 3 species of Land Iguana found in Galapagos and they can live for up to 50 years and grow up to 3 feet long. Both Marine and Land are in their own way quite remarkable and have beautiful markings. They spit through their noses if you get too close!

what beautiful colours those crabs are
Lovely array of shots of the Iguanas Lai, some of them look absolutely massive I love how the first one blends in with the rock if you weren't careful you could stand on him thinking he was !!
We all love the big cats but this is a lovely alternative to them Lai, well done and thanks for sharing them

Thanks Doogs. They did blend in so well and to be honest when climbing over the rocks we nearly stood on some of the lava lizards Glad you're enjoying the alternative safari

The Iguanas are really incredible creatures Lai, fantastic photos of them. To be honest I did'nt realise they warmed up together I thought they were solitary, unless mating. Love the colours of the Sally Lightfoot Crab, and that water is incredibily clear, it almost as if it's not there
WS
Ps It's snot nice they spit through their nose though

WOW, those really are impressive photo's Lai. The Iguana almost looks quite menacing but what intriguing creatures they are, stunning. Loved the Sally Lightfoot crab as well, in one picture she looked as if she was asking to be picked up or was it a threatening pose! the colour of her is spectacular. I'm glad we are not all about Big Cats nd that other creatures get shown off on here, I love the variety and these pictures really are superb, a great wake up this morning.

Thanks WS and Littlewid. WS, that's a good one about the Iguanas!
The crab was so relaxed and stayed in that spot for ages so can't have felt any threat from me. I guess it's just the pose.
I also had no idea about Marine Iguanas and how much time they spend en masse trying to heat up, but it makes sense.
