Pride of lions in Northampton's streets
The county council sponsored a silver lion to "reflect" the town

A pride of 15 brightly-coloured lion statues is being put into place around the streets of Northampton.

The Pride of Northampton project aims to attract visitors and encourage residents to feel a sense of pride in the town, the county council said.

Each 5ft (1.53m) high lion is painted with a different design by an artist or school group and is sponsored.

They will be displayed for 10 weeks and then auctioned for charities, including the Born Free Foundation.

There are also 25 "mini" lion statues being placed around the area.

For the past month, shoppers have been able to watch artists decorate the statues at their "lions' den" base in the Grosvenor Shopping Centre.

The event has been organised by Northampton Borough Council in partnership with arts and education company Wild in Art.

I was in the Grosvenor Centre on Saturday and I didn't see any lions being decorated. Must remember to walk round with my eyes Shocked open next time!!

That sounds great - a bit like the eles in London. It really made me laugh that you missed them, Shocked just like me Shocked always miss the obvious when it's right there. Not saying that you did though Anne-Marie What a Face

More councils should do things like that to raise awareness and pride in their towns - a wonderful idea.

Don't worry Lai, lol! I always miss the obvious!!

My mum went shopping in Northampton today so I must ask her if she saw them, we will then see if its a case of like mother like daughter lol!

It is a wonderful idea, and I must make sure I pop over there to see them (and not to spend any money)
