Animals Asia Empty Animals Asia

Post  Laikipia Wed Aug 11, 2010 12:42 pm

Founded by Jill Robinson in 1998, Animals Asia Foundation is devoted to the welfare of wild, domesticated and endangered species across the region. Animals Asia is an Asia-based government-registered organisation with headquarters in Hong Kong, and offices in the UK, USA, Germany, Italy and Australia and Moon Bear Rescue Centres in China and Vietnam. We have more than 250 staff worldwide. Through co-operating with government partners and establishing programmes with local communities, we are working to end cruelty for animals in Asia

Under 'news and features' is a video clip (number 4) called 'the performance'

If you can bear to look at this please do it is deeply upsetting and shocking - i am posting this because we need to do whatever we can to stop animals being made to perform for people. It left me feeling very distressed that monkeys, tigers, lions, bears and eles (and others) can be treated so appallingly.

I watched this earlier with Terry Waite speaking. It is a hard watch, but I think we need to be reminded of this frequently!

Thanks for posting Lai!

I agree SM - i thought Terry Waite did it very well and it really brought home just what goes on for our so called entertainment.

What a distressing watch and read that was but one that needed watching, it was absolutaly heartbreaking, my stomach was churning with the sickness of it all. It just makes you so angry, at the same time though powerless to stop it personally.
I have posted the link to my FB wall and also signed up for Pams Blog feed and saved Animals Asia to my favourites.
Thanks alot for bringing this to our attention Lai.

Thanks Littlewid - i am still Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad about it and feeling totally powerless to do anything. I think the sadest was the female bear being made to learn to skip - i mean what is going on in someones mind to think a bear can understand .....

sorry mustn't start again, i've only just calmed down from first seeing the clip.

Lai there was the Bear being made to skip, the Lioness jumping through fire and the Tiger too, the poor Kangaroo being wrestled to the ground in the boxing, bears being hit whilst walking on their hands and the poor pigs being made to jump of a high ledge thing into water, its all so sick, I havent calmed down at all, the sickness and barbaric behaviour of people is just beyond my comprehension sometimes, my head and heart is just so full of all those poor animals.

I agree with all you say, the whole thing was quite appalling - one thing i really don't understand is the trainers and how they can possibly think what they are doing is moral. Perhaps it is just a job to them and they don't think at all. I know it goes on world wide but somehow it being Asia upset me even more as it is Asia that is responsible for the demise of the tiger/rhino and ele through poaching. Do they care about anything?

Lai the answer to that is no they don't care, because if they did they wouldn't do it. There are no morals either, for if there were, again they wouldn't do it. There is no feeling for these poor animals and certainly no respect, for their health, Welfare, mental state or their feelings. Asia disgusts me more and more Lai they just do not see or respect the beauty of animals, it has not been acheived to stop them poaching and my concern is the use of animals in the so called circus acts will not stop either, it's not just the conservationists and welfare organisations that need to get on to them, it's the other Governments of the world but many are affraid to speak out against China. Sometimes you just wonder where Animal Advocacy stands. My heart remains heavy this evening, I so wish the world was a nicer place and that respect for animals was important to everyone.

Again you are right Littlewid. I woke this morning still thinking about the clip and almost wishing i had neither seen it nor posted it, but to ignore such things is just as bad. The problem is as you say no one speaks out against China, they are taking over Africa and have no concerns for animals or their welfare. No matter how much money you throw at a problem like this without the education and understanding that what they are doing is wrong the atrocities will continue. No Crying or Very sad

Post  whitestarling Thu Aug 12, 2010 12:41 pm

That is some of the most disgusting footage of the treatment of Animals I have seen, and I really cant find words to describe how angry I feel about the way these Animals are suffering all in the supposed entertaiment of human ? beings. They would find a lot more enterainment, and satisfaction if they could watch these creatures in the wild intheir natural habitat, and following there lives. It just seems the mentality of the Asian Countrys that they see no wrong in how they use, and abuse not only Animals but human beings as well, and has been said the only way that can change is through outside pressure because it's for certain the Chinese Government will do nothing about it. Other World Governments will not challenge them either. So I think it comes down to indviduals, and the power of the internet. The only thing I can think of that will get a reaction is to hit China where it hurts, economicaly on exports. If all the Animal lovers in the world stopped buying Chinese Exports I think they would then sit up, and take notice, but is there the willpower or Organisation to do it.
Thanks for bringing it to our attention Lai

I don't know if anyone saw the programme on Animal Planet last night (only caught it by chance whilst channel flicking)

Moon Bears - Journey to Freedom.

It was the most tragic thing to see these poor bears and the horrendous living conditions and hell they go through.

The lucky few that Animals Asia have been able to save and rehabilitate is heartwarming, they are the most endearing bears and so tolerant. The sickening thing is how many Moon bears are in these bear farms still and how ignorant the Chinese are.

A Chinese herbalist said that there were at least 20 plants that would give the same benefit as bear bile and yet there are still over 7000 maybe 10,000 bears in this living hell.

Sorry to rant but honestly it was not as easy programme to watch but certainly highlighted their plight and one can only hope did some good.

I haven't checked this website for ages but they've done an update in November with 3 clips on their latest rescue of 14 Moons bears, it's really worth watching when you have a moment. They have now rescued 104 Moon bears and the work they do is truly amazing, and inspirational.

Jill writes a great blog with lots of news and photos - the whole thing made me Very Happy and Sad

Thanks god for organisations like Animals Asia - they deserve so much support for their tireless work.

We've added to our family by sponsoring a bear Very Happy

Several updates from Jill

http://184.173.250.139/~aafblog/blog_en/

and today I got a photo of my sponsored bear who is called Kalina - she is described as elderly. Has a hump back, light brown hair, a big, fluffy ruff and small crescent on her chest. She has bald eye rims and a small white patch on her chin. On top of this she was a lump on her nose, making her easy to identify. Kalina is a good, gentle bear, who seldoms gets in disputes and goes about her daily business pretty quietly. She was rescued in January 2001.

Needless to say just reading the piece they wrote about Kalina made me Sad

I've also got a short DVD - Moon Bear Rescue, a decade on which I'm going to watch later.

There is something very appealing about these little moon bears and it's tragic to know that even now there are about 4,000 still trapped in these bile farms.

I Agree WS - it's a hard one to accept just how much misery the Chinese are causing through their medicinal beliefs etc.

The DVD was Sad but Katherine and her team are doing amazing things in rescuing these lovely little bears and she is so determined that I am sure more and more will be saved. To see the state that some of them arrive in was almost too much to watch, I wonder how humans can inflict so much pain and misery on animals?
