Reflections in a pond
As the sun decided to shine for a few minutes in between the constant rain showers, I decided to go outside and try out a new lens I have acquired for my camera. The local pond seemed the best place as the moorhens were still around and although the lens does not have a great telephoto capability I thought I would see how it performs. It was not until I started looking at the results on my computer that I realised that although the moorhen pictures were just about ok, the combination of light, wind rippling the surface of the pond and reflections from the surrounding greenery had created some rather beautiful impressionist "paintings".
It never ceases to amaze me the beauty that nature can effortlessly create if we only take the time to pause and look!!
The first photos shows the picture with the moorhens, the others are just crops of the reflections

Safariman they really do look like impressionist oil paintings, they would make some lovely prints. It's something I've always said, never discard a shot untill you've had a close look at it on a bigger screen, you never really know whats on it

More reflections in a pond!!!
A rare occurrence this morning, the sun was shining and it was not raining, so I quickly walked across to the pond to see what state it was in and to check on the Moorhens. The Moorhens appeared to be ok and the pond was still retained within its banks but I could not resist taking some photos of the wonderful reflections and visual tricks the reflections were playing!!!
The wonky house and fence!!!!

P.s. Happy New Year to everyone!!!!

Safariman. Great reflection photos, the first one made me think I might have had too many sundowners but they are all lovely and very interesting.
So pleased you had a nice sunny day and also that the moor hens are okay. Oh and Happy new year to you too
Thanks for sharing.

WOW those reflections are amazing Safariman, I love the moorhen ones and its great to know they are doing fine and the pond has been retained and not spilled out with all the rain. The reflections of the branches has to be my favourite, its incredible, it's almost like an upside down wonky photo, very clever indeed. I tell you what though, who ever built that house and fence needs new glasses
Great share Safariman

ace photos SM, very unusual but also very stunning. Like Lai I was wondering if I'd had too many sundowners looking at them

Re: Reflections in a pond
The wonky house and fence is a straight photo of a reflection in the pond. All I did to make the photo more "interesting" was to turn it upside down to make it appear I was photographing the house!!! The wonkiness is created by the ripples in the water. There are a couple of clues if you look closely, in the top left hand corner the pointers on the weathervane are wrong and in the bottom right hand corner, the moor hen reflection is above the moorhen instead of being below. I think when we look at photos we see what we expect to see and not necessarily what is actually there!!! People always say "that photo looks nothing like me" but that is because we only ever see ourselves as a reflection, usually in a mirror and therefore reversed, and not as others or the camera sees us!!!

Re: Reflections in a pond
Sorry Safariman only just cathing up what with health, and Internet issues. Great photos, and a brilliant one of the wonky House and fence. I remember saying when you did the reflections last year, that some of them really look like they are oil paintings. Good to know the Moorhens are still OK, and the Pond has'nt burst its bank
