Burrowing Owls Empty Burrowing Owls

This is not a species of Owl that I knew about. The first couple of pictures are of an owl who has bitten off more than he can chew  Frog  but also take a look at the other pictures in the article, they are gorgeous owls and its a lovely article as well.

Frogs legs - must be one of those French owls  Laughing 

Their eyes are a really strong feature.

I have heard the name before, but didn't know anything about them. Strange that the burrow into the ground to nest, you wouldn't think of that in Owls. Some great shots of them there, hope it didn't choke on the Frog

French Owls GR  lol!  but your right, their eyes are a strong feature.

I had never even heard of them WS and like you I was surprised they burrowed into the ground, I would have thought that was a little dangerous for them but obviously they are safe that way but its still odd for an owl I think.
I am going to read up more about them, I don't think they are in the Owl books that I have so I think it will be Google.
