Channel Island Allen Hummingbird

Phoebe is a beautiful Hummingbird I have been following since January. Life has been tough for Phoebe but she is a little battler that doesn't give up easily.
Phoebe laid her first eggs in December 2009, the first one hatched on 19th January 2010, this little chick was called Storm, then on the 20th January the second egg hatched and we welcomed Sassy into the world. sadly on the 26th January Storm passed away, the reason is unknown. Sassy appeared to be doing well but bad weather hit and sassy unfortunately passed away on the 18th February.
Phoebe seemed a little uneasy but laid another egg on 25th February and then another one on the 27th February, she was looking after the eggs well but the nest was attacked by a Lizzard and Phoebe moved one of the eggs to another nest and left one behind, neither eggs were viable. Phoebe rebuilt sassy & Storms nest on the 27th March and laid another egg on the 29th March and a further one on 31st march, again luck was not on Phoebes side as both eggs were eaten by crows. Phoebe fled this nest and took up residence in an old nest that belonged to two previous Hummingbirds called Jade and Julip, she didn't stay here long as she built a new nest of her own.
On 23rd April Phoebe laid another egg and then on the 25th April she laid a second egg, to date these eggs are fine and they are due to hatch, all being well on the 10th - 12th May.
Phoebe has laid up to six clutches in the past and has raised chicks to independence, lets hope these two eggs will have the same chance of life.

You can watch Phoebe on the following link but as the cam is from California and they are 8 hours behind us, the best viewing time is late afternoon and into the evening.
Heres the link for Phoebe :

Phoebe is sitting in her nest at the moment keeping her eggs warm and safe. It is a little windy and the rose bush that Phoebe's nest is in is getting a little blown at the moment but Phoebe is fine.

Aaaaaaah that's lovely - Hope and Hoku. This is one webcam we'll have to watch everyday so we can keep tabs on Phoebe and the chicks. It would be so lovely if they both fledged.

Beautiful pic lai. We wil have to keep watching and hope this time Phoebes chicks have success. They should almost fledge together as there is only one day between them. It takes 21 - 28 days to fledge so we are looking at the 31st May - 7th June approx.....fingers crossed.

Aaaaaaaaaaah just look at them - aren't they just so sweet lying there together. I really hope one doesnt bully the other and that they both fledge successfully.

It would such a happy ending for poor Phoebe's earlier disasters

Hope and Hoku are still doing really well, they are filling that tiny nest up between them both, it's still looking really good this time round for Phoebe and her chicks.

Great to know that both Hope and Hoku are okay and doing so well. They look really squashed in that tiny nest What a Face but i guess it's cosy for them.

Thanks for posting Littlewid.

All quiet with Hope and Hoku this afternoon. Phoebe is out presumably getting food for them. It must be an exhausting task.

They are looking so well Lai and it's only about another week until they fledge, it's gone so quickly and thankfully so far it has all gone well for Phoebe and Hope & Hoku.

Hello everyone, theres more sad news i'm affraid. Phoebes nest was attacked by a crow on the 28th May, the cam was taken out by it and both chicks were knocked to the ground. Hoku was found on the ground but there was no sign of Hope. Hoku has been placed back in the nest and I have just seen Phoebe feed him. Little Hope seems to be gone, another upsetting disaster for poor Phoebe. There is a video on site but I didn't think anyone would want to watch it as both chicks were happy and cuddled together.
I so pray that Hoku remains safe and nothing else happens to Phoebe's chick.
heres little Hoku and i'm sorry for posting sad news again.

Sad i can't believe it Littlewid - poor Phoebe and poor little Hope, what a tragedy yet again. Honestly, how Phoebe manages to carry on i don't know. We must be thankful that little Hoku has survived and that Phoebe is still feeding Hoku.

Thanks for updating us - although it was not the happy news we were looking forward to.

heres a few pictures.
