Black Rhino airlifted to the Serengeti

Excellent news. The current population of Black Rhino in Tanzania's Serengeti is 33. Over the course of the next year, that population will almost double as a conservation programme that started in 1964 comes to fruition.

An original group of seven animals rescued from East Africa in the 60s has thrived and spawned into a much larger group in their protected South African conservancy. Now 32 of them are being sent back 'home' to roam the Serengeti plain.

TT, thats the sort of news that just lifts your spirits. Animals that were on the verge of extinction being taken to safety, breeding successfully and safely and then being returned home....just so exciting and even more so that some of them are direct descendents of the original rhino that were taken to safety. It is just the kind of Gold Standard conservation work that you want to hear about.
They are going to extraordinary lengths to make sure these treasured Rhino's remain safe once they are repatriated to their homeland and that is such a comfort to hear.
As they say, it's going to take about a year for them to become acclimatised to their new habitat but what a reward it will be for all the hard work that has been done and also for the Black Rhino to be home again.....Just wonderful.
