Re: Elephants under threat
Well I think the outcome was obvious knowing that most of the people on the committee were people from Zoos, they were never going to say stop breeding or phase out elephants in Zoos or relocate them, of course they were going to opt for management improvement, the trouble is nowhere in England can give elephants the space they need. Infact no Zoo animal has the space they would normally have in the wild. it would be easy to say relocate these elephants but to where and many of them have been born into zoo life. We remember Echo and her family and the knowledge Echo had for taking her family to different parts of her homeland for food and water, these elephants wouldn't have that knowledge to survive times of drought in the wild, so I suppose they should manage them to extinction which would be no more breeding, that in turn deprives the cow elephants of having calfs and that is also cruel, but to keep them and to continue to breed elephants into zoo life is also not a true option for these majestic animals. It's such a tough call because they should not be in zoos, I am sure their keepers really do care for them but stressful behaviour has been observed and elephants are extremely emotional animals, they should never have been in zoos in the first instance, so I suppose is the answer that they should be managed to extinction and stop the further suffering of other elephants and what happens when these individual herds die off and only one elephant is left, they are not solitary animals so this again will cause further stress.
Again it's something in my eyes, man should never have interfered with, Elephants should have been left in the wild and conservation should have been managed in the field.

zoos and eles just dont go together - you've all said it before me so I won't reiterate but eles should be wild and in family herds.
