Then there were two

Then there were three
Wildcam Africa - Pete's Pond - Page 17 Mwsna478
Then our friend turned up at the bottom.

There are quite a few birds around and lots of splashing sounds.

Well done LW. Those are Impala, and this group have been haging around the pond in the eveing for a few nights now. Your friend at the bottom is the Grey Heron, and the big splashes you hear are Cat Fish they grow upto 5 or 6ft long

That is a very strange Moth WS, it actually looks quite scary in that picture. Loving the Bull Elephant dropping by for a drink, he was lovely and I liked the two Bush Pigs, don't often get to see them, they looked as though they were having a muddy time. The big bird has been seen before but I can't remember what it is but I remember it by its long legs and sitting on what we would call our elbows, he is quite magnificent isn't he.

Great pictures of the Rock Python WS. Heres a little info about them from good old Wiki

Python sebae, commonly known as the African rock python, is a large, nonvenomous snake of Sub-Saharan Africa. The African rock python is one of seven species in the genus Python. It has two subspecies: one found in Central and Western Africa, the other in Southern Africa.

Africa's largest snake, specimens may approach or exceed 6 m (20 ft). The southern subspecies is generally smaller than its northern relative. The snake is found in a variety of habitats, from forests to near deserts, although usually near sources of water. The African rock python kills its prey by constriction and often eats animals up to the size of antelope, occasionally even crocodiles. The snake reproduces by egg-laying. Unlike most snakes, the female will protect her nest and sometimes even her hatchlings.

The snake is widely feared even though it only very rarely kills humans. Although the snake is not endangered, it does face threats from habitat reduction and hunting.

Loved the video of the Elephant behind at first the little baby was just enjoying having a drink and trying to learn how to use his trunk, then along came another youngster and splash, but how quick did those eles trumpet and get right in there, just brilliant and then when he looked safe, in he toppled again and what an army that got him out and he just seemed to want to go back in again but was being herded away to safety by all those legs and trunks, just a fantastic video and an amazing show of love and protection from his mum and the herd.

Thanks for all that info on the Rock Python LW, they still make me go affraid when I look at them, even on a video !!! Didn't realise there was 7 different species of Python and I would not like to meet one that was 20ft long No pale

Loved that clip of the Elephant behind WS, poor wee toot was just minding his own business until someone fell on top of him and knocked him over into the water !!! He certainly was unperturbed to get up, stay in there only for it to happen again :)

Its brilliant that you tuned in and saw them WS, it has given me such a huge smile after a rubbish week Wildcam Africa - Pete's Pond - Page 17 768480 fingers crossed all the little chicks do well and that we are able to see more of them.

Loved the Black Heron too, he looked as though he was doing some peculiar dance ritual didn't he but so clever to catch his fish that way, I loved it. A fantastic afternoon at Petes Pond I say Wildcam Africa - Pete's Pond - Page 17 853843

Wildcam Africa - Pete's Pond - Page 17 768480 Great shot CC. PP has been down for the last few weeks untill Peter went over there, and sorted things out. It then took time to get thr Zoomies back on stream to man the cams, also upto yesterday they had'nt sorted out the Ustream link up. Although it is available on the Wildearth link.
The last time there was a Croc at PP was a few years ago, and his name was Fatty, he was huge. Strange that there's a baby Croc there, it must have travelled from the River. I will check with the Guys on chat later to see if they have any news.
I think you'll have to see what GR, and Lai are Rabbiting on about Wildcam Africa - Pete's Pond - Page 17 40683

I checked with the Guys on chat at PP tonight, sadly there was no pic not sure if there was'nt a Zoomie on duty or the lights had failed. It seem that the area there was flooded quite badly a while ago which is why the cam was down. The River flooded, and also 15,000 baby Crocs escaped from a Crocodile Farm so that seems where it came from. It's been nicknamed Tiny for obvious reasons. I managed to get a close up of it today
