I've just been playing around with this camera and you can set it to all different presets or just pan around yourself, its an amazing little cam.....well worth downloading java if you don't have it to see the cam.....i'm going to be playing with this one alot.

The Montrose Basin is a tidal lagoon that almost dries out at low tide,it is at the bottom of the South Esk river.Keep you eyes peeled for seals at low tide as the common seals use it as a nursery for their young this time of year.Lots of waders and sea birds, there's a nesting raft for terns in front of the visitor centre. You can sometimes see Salmon or Sea Trout jumping out of the water and even rarer, there are Otters here too.

When I first put the cam up TB it was focused on the nesting raft in front of the visitor centre and then i discovered you could move it around. I am surely going to be keeping an eye on this one as there is so much to see . Scotland is becoming a hard place to beat for seeing wildlife.

That's a great one as you can pan round so much and look at so many different areas.

Another really good find Littlewid, although i may have to take a lot more time off to cover all these great webcams you've found Very Happy

WS sometimes it just says disconected, if you hit the link again it then works, they can disconect the cam though if schools are visiting the centre.
Just had a look this morning, this is feeding station one
Montrose Basin Web Cam - scottish Wildlife Trust Mwsnap15 unfortunatly the little bird flew off before I could get a picture.

heres the cam

Montrose Basin Web Cam - scottish Wildlife Trust Mwsnap16 if you hit the start control box on the right hand side at the bottom it brings up control of the cam it brings up the selected cam presets at the bottom as a drop down box, you can then click on which cam you want to view, ive checked them all this morning and there are some lovley views, you can just pan around but the feeding stations are at the selected pre sets.

I did get it working thanks, watched a Kestrel sat on the power line.
Just to put you in the picture,so to speak, the visitor centre is on the south side of the basin,to right is the town and the railway station then on to the sea.To the left is the river mouth/bridge of dun(otters seen here on occassion).Opposite you can see the hills, which lead into the Cairngorms national park.
Migration times are the best for seeing lots of different birds, fairly quiet just now, lots of eider ducks as they breed in the area and lots of terns, any flat roof in the town is covered with nesting gulls and terns at the moment. We have sandwich terns and arctic terns on the factory roof where I work.

That info is great for getting a picture of where the cams are TB, when you go through them you have no idea of the direction unless you know the area, so thats brilliant. How wonderful to see the kestrel, the bird I saw this morning flew in and out so quickly I couldn't spot what it was.
Do you take your camera to work at all TB?

I don't take my camera to work,I should do as earlier this year we had a Goshawk inside the factory for three days. When the big overhead crane moved under it ,he just went out of it's way.We left the doors open all day,but he was happy out of the cold I think, then he just flew out one day, probably hungry.

Thats the thing with wildlife isnt it, you never know where its going to pop up and usually its when we least expect it and no camera at the ready.
Makes you think he was just keeping warm until he was ready to eat, thank heavens the crane missed him though TB.

They just don't want to be caught TB.

Just been looking at this cam and its been panning on its own, plus ive been looking myself, just got this lovely picture of Montrose town, no birds but at one point they panned right up to the bridge, so birds must land on there as well frequently.

The basin is divided into sections, wildfowling is still allowed to left and far side as you look from the centre.Bits of it are nature reserve and the bit near the station is where you often see guys digging for bait for sea fishing. It all seems to work, not everyones happy, but you have to accomodate all sorts I guess.
There are several cameras at the centre, some to screens inside that can be steered by visitors. There are also 4 hides you can walk to and sit in,really usefull when the weather turns nasty, which it does often in the winter.

It sounds as if they have got it well planned and sorted TB. As you say, you can't please all of the people all of the time, but it sounds as if they have tried very hard.
To me it sounds as if it would be a lovely place to visit. The thing I like about this cam is it gives you the whole perspective, some cams tell you about the surrounding area and then are fixed on one point that is perceived to be the best, this one gives a whole variety of options.

There's over 50000 Pinkfooted Geese roosting and feeding in Montrose basin, also a White Phase Snow Goose, along with some Barnacles, plus thousands of waders, might be worth having a look at the Scottish Wildlife Trusts web cams.
