PPH deffo needs a helmet and to only cycle in the areas where the wildlife know the rules of the road, i'm sure he should have stopped at that junction and given way to oncoming humans Very Happy

You take care out there PPH, cycling is a scary business affraid

( Great clip though WS)

I'm cycling a few days a week (weather dependant) I'm lucky that one of the routes home is along a well lit road that a lot of cyclist use so its not to bad.

Although I will admit that I have taken the bus a couple of days because its been raining and even though the walk is not a hard one its not nice in the rain.

The job is going really well, still learning a few things and they are giving me new things to do. I'm getting used to the technical jargon (not that I'm really understanding it any more) but hopefully they will keep me on after my contract runs out in January

Pleased to hear the job is going well and that your are enjoying it. Apart from the fact i'm sure you are good at the job, i'm sure they will keep you on after January, the IT systems always need support so fingers crossed it will work out well for you.
Don't blame you catching the bus on the odd days, the weather has not been too good for cycling sometimes just lately.

had my first review in work today

They are impressed that despite my lack of techie knowledge and being thrown into the deep end I've made very few mistakes. They are not sure if I will be taken on in January as the company was taken over in July and there has been a recruitment freeze on permanent staff so I am not sure.

At least I know that I am doing a good job

That's a brilliant review PPH, no matter what happens. Well done I've always found that if people have the talent to do a job, it always comes to the front when they are thrown in the deep end. You should be proud of what you've achieved there.

we had a team meeting today and the team's service level has gone up from 74% to 93% in the 6 weeks since I've been there. Obviously its the hard work of all the team that has achieved this but it shows that I must be making some kind of impact.

I've also managed to sort out a customer's problem which has been going on since 2006, I think thats because I'm coming at it from different experience and skill set than the other people in the team. They have said that they are pushing for a permanent position or at least a contract extension.

I know that they have to fight their case with higher management but I think with this progress they have a lot of ammunition to fight their corner

Thats a brilliant increase PPH, and I think it shows what a valuable contibution you have made. It's very often the case that when someone comes in with no preconceived ideas, that they look at things from a different point of view, and it really can help. Bet the person whos problem you solved after all that time, would give you a big vote of confidence

Sounds like the case for keeping you on is building all the time PPH, especially after solving the problem from 2006 . Lets hope the management see the sense in keeping you on. Wouldn't that be a lovely chrissy pressie for you.

Re: Job Hunting

Post  princesspurplehippy on Mon Dec 12, 2011 9:24 pm

I got some semi good news on friday, theyve been given permission to advertise 2 'techie' jobs in the team. I didnt apply for them as they were well over my technical skills but I got asked by my team leader on friday to apply for one as they want to keep me. when I said that I didnt have the skills then he said not to worry as they only really need 1 techie person and they could always train me up on the easy stuff.

So I took thee weekend to think about it and I decided to apply for it today, after I got asked by my TL if I had applied for it cos he hadnt seen my CV

fingers crossed for a perm position soon

Sounds as though you have done such a great job and they know they would be daft to loose you PPH. It's lovely to be asked to apply for a position so i'm really pleased for you and will be keeping my fingers crossed it all works out and you start the new year with a permanent job.

Re: Job Hunting

Post  princesspurplehippy on Wed Jan 04, 2012 10:12 pm

Update on the job front. Its just over two weeks until the end of my contract and still no news. I decided on monday to not actively look for work but I did update my cv on some online websites just to get it 'out there'

From what I can make out at work they want to hire me but management are being a bit slow in their decision making so I've decided that as much as I want to keep this job I need to start thinking about myself. They seemed a bit shocked when they found out I was starting looking and a bit worried that they might lose me, but they understood my decision. So hopefully this will make them realise what they will be losing if I don't hear anything in a week then I will actively be looking

Good idea PPH - you don't want to be without a job and they need to consider that and get on and make a decision. Good Luck and keep us posted.
