Post  whitestarling on Thu Apr 14, 2011 10:57 pm

We've just had a majic few minutes. Mrs S heard a Tawny Owl calling I've just had my PC playing Tawny Owl calls with the window open, and its calling back each time I do it. affraid better stop though the neighbours will be complaining. I have to say it was brilliant though to hear it respond

Do you know which sex says which call?there is a difference and you can tell if it's a male or female calling.

As explained on a wildlife programme the other day, sadly I can't remember which programme, but at the time I thought, that's great I must remember that!

I did use a site that had 3 calls on it, but all it said was Young, Adult 1, Adult 2. I will try to find out after the weekend when I finish work

The female shouts "twit" and the male says "whoo"?

I know it sounds like one of my jokes but it's true.

Yes, that was it TB. It wasn't Springwatch as it isn't on yet, but something similar.

Thanks for the info.

That really does sound like a joke TB but I believe you. I will be listening for any owl sounds I hear now and will try and recognise them.

I brought 3 new books today and one was a book called Wesley, it's a true story about a four day old Barn Owl.....my nose is going to be in it this evening Owl 2
