Hi to all our new members.

Here is a place that you can tell us a little bit about yourselves. You can tell us as much or as little as you like but it's always nice to know a little something about each other, it's also a little ice breaker so that once you have posted you will feel like an old friend.
To post your introduction please use the Reply Button at the bottom of the page, you can check back for welcome messages on this thread. Please also check your Messages Box at the top of the Home page.

Here are a few suggestions you can tell us about yourself.

1. What your avatar means to you

2. Favourite animal

3. Do you have any pets

4. What country you are from

5. How you found us

6. Main wildlife topic of interest

To start you off, I have 3 cats, 2 Semi longhairded Maine Coones and one black domestic cat, 1 Black Cocker Spaniel. I am from England based in West Sussex, I founded the forum with Whitestarling out of a love for wildlife. I love Lions, Tigers, Cheetahs and Elephants but have a huge passion for British Wildlife and Birds of Prey......would adore to have a Barn Owl and my avatar portrays what I try to do........Love All Wildlife.

Hi Wildthing/Rob,

Nice to meet you. What would you prefer to be called on the Forum?

I have 2 cats that are completely stupid, but think they are Einstein. It sounds quite a menagerie you have there, it must take quite a bit looking after them all. Though I love animals, for some reason, reptiles give me a shiver.

I love horses, its my all time favourite animals - next to elephants - the arabians especially. This is my thread on Horses https://wildaboutanimals.forumotion.net/t461-horses

It must give you great satisfaction in your job working at a Vet Clinic. Im a secretary and my work lines my bosses pockets were as you are helping our furry friends. May be time for me to change careers!

Anyway great to meet you and if you have anything you want on the forum, drop a PM to one of the Admin Team and we can sort it for you.

Hi Rob/Wildthing

Everyone calls me PPH cos I have such a long name on the forums.

I live in Oxfordshire but I'm orignally from North Wales. My landlord doesnt allow pets so I don't have any at the moment but I have always had pets while growing up and I love all types of animals (apart from a few creepy crawlies)
I love watching the birds that visit my bird feeder and try and take pictures of them.
I was made redundant at the end of March so while I'm looking for work I work voluntarily a few days a week at my local RSPB office.

Hi Wildthing
Great to have you on the Forum. We live in North Wales not that far from where PPH came from. At the moment we have one Cat called Poppy, we have had Cats, and Dogs for years. No Horses, all though where we live at the moment we are opposite stables that we can see from the front door, and there is also a riding school area at the back. We've never had reptiles although where we used to live the next door nieghbours had an Iguana that got out, and spent two days on the greenhouse roof of our other nieghbours, I was always telling him his greenhouse was to hot lol! . If you need any help with Avatars, posting photos, or videos, just shout, and we'll help. Dont worry about posting things in the wrong places, that happens, and the Admin Team can soon put things in the right place.
Look forward to hearing from you

Hello Rob/Wildthing

I'm known as Lai (short for Laikipia, my all time favourite place in Kenya, which is also my all time favourite place in the world).

We live in Cheshire with two dogs, one Rhodesian Ridgeback called Tamu and one rescue retired Greyhound called Penny. Currently no horses, but have had in the past.

I love all wildlife but probably African more than anything. Having said that I feed our garden birds and enjoy trying to photograph them.

HI Wildthing or is it going to be Rob or are you going to become WT?......seems to be the WAA way Very Happy whatever you decide it's really nice to have you here and thanks for posting a bit about yourself, hope you now feel like an old friend of the forum.

What a wonderful career you will have, I am a Nurse Specialist but if I had my time again I would have gone to Vet School, don't get me wrong, I love my job but if we could turn the clock back thats the path I would follow. How much longer do you have till you complete your training and are you hoping to work with small animals or horses or farm animals or become attatched to a wildlife clinic?

If you want to post about your dogs ( we love getting to know everyones pets) there is a pet section on the forum that you can start a new thread for them and post some pics. If you need any help just give one of us a shout, the Admins are here to help but I know any of the gang will help you out if we are not around.

Look forward to catching up more on the site, the main thing is to enjoy your time here.

Hello Everyone,

I am Sarah from Western North Carolina, USA.

I have 13 cats who are all rescues. I have had all kinds of pets - ferrets, dogs, a lab rat, a hamster and what ever needs a home. I have one cat that is a registered Maine Coon - she is profoundly deaf.

I love all things cat!!! Large - small! I take in all that I can and help find homes for others.

I support refuges for big cats that have been mistreated, like Big Cat Rescue.

I stumbled onto your website and am always looking for new ways to help and support any animal rescue program that I can, and to always learn more about what is going on with all creatures.

I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you.

Thanks for letting me join...
Sarah

HI Keylargoer/Sarah/KL

Welcome to WAA and I am so looking forward to hearing about all your cats. I have two Maine Coones myself. I have a 6 yr old boy called Tiga (Teaga) and he is huge but very sweet natured and Splodge, she is almost 1yr old and she doesn't stop talking and loves lying round my neck. My sister breeds MC's and they are both from her. I have never come across a deaf MC before but knowing MC's I bet she copes really well. I also have a 6yr old Black Domestic Shorthaired cat called Sparkles and she is only the size of a 6month old kitten, she is so dainty. Maybe you could post some pics of your cats in the pet section, shout if you need a hand.

I think it's amazing you rescue so many animals and give them a home, I bet they keep you very busy. As WS has said, we try and support and promote as many animal charities and organisations as possible on here and we all try and do our bit. Members have raised money for charities and SM and Myself run Assisi Fundraising which is always trying to raise money for worthy causes.

I look forward to chatting more on site and hearing about the refuge you are involved with and please feel free to share as much info as you like about your experiences and views regarding all things animal and I hope you find things of interest to you here.

I'm glad you stumbled across us.

Hi Rob

Look forward to seeing your pet pictures. What are your dogs called? My Cocker Spaniel is called Nero and he is two years old and his fur grows really wild afro
I bet not many of us stay at the same place all our working lives, moving around is often how we gain experience in the field we have chosen. Whats the split with study and work experience that you have to do and how long is your course?

Hi Keylargoer/Sarah

Welcome to the boars

Wow 13 cats, and well done for taking them all in.

I would love to rescue animals if I could and if I had a big enough space I could imagine I would have as many as you. Ive always loved animals and my parents have always taken in strays or unwanted dogs or cats as they feel its better to take in unwanted animals and give it a better life

Hello Sarah

Welcome to WAA - looking forward to hearing all about your cats, 13 is amazing, well done you for rescuing them all. We've two dogs, so definitely no cats around, but one of our dogs is a retired rescue greyhound.

Big Cat Rescue is one of the organisations I follow via their website and e-mail updates. They do amazing things in helping all those 'exotic big cats'.

I hope you enjoy looking round the forum. There's plenty of topics, so hopefully you'll find some that interest you.

Hi Rob,

I would love to see a pic of your lovely animals. Sorry to be so bold ask but would it be possible to post one on a new thread in our Pets sections here: https://wildaboutanimals.forumotion.net/f3-pet-chat-photos-videos

We have an instructions thread on how to upload a pic here is the link: https://wildaboutanimals.forumotion.net/t224-how-to-upload-a-photo-from-your-pc
It is quite easy once you get the hang of it.

I LOVE to see photos of our pets and any wildlife you spot or are lucky to live close to.

Thanks Rob.

Post  Doogs Sat May 21, 2011 11:31 am

Hi I'm Doogs and I'd like to give a big welcome to Sarah and Rob cheers

I stay up in the north east of Scotland and adore all things four legged and furry ! I have a passion for horses and enjoy going horse racing as much as possible and have even dabbled in owning a couple of horses through racing syndicates. I also love Big Cats and after becomming adicted to Big Cat Diary decided in 2006 to do on a 'once in a lifetime' trip to the Masai Mara in Kenya to see the likes of Bella, Kike, Notch etc etc - it's now 2011 and we're returning to Kenya later this year for the 4th time, just I love you it there ! No pets at home for us just now, due to football, horse racing, holidays my husband and I are away as much as possible so it would be unfair to have an animal at home but we will one day.

Everyone on the forum has a mutual love of all things furry, feathered etc etc so by the sounds of things you will both fit in here nicely Wink Please let us see your cats & dogs in our pet section https://wildaboutanimals.forumotion.net/f3-pet-chat-photos-videos so we can see what they look like.

13 cats Sarah, WOW ! Fantastic that they are all rescue cats, well done you cheers

Great to hear you too have a love horses Rob and it would be interesting to hear more about your job training to be a Vet Tech - fantastic choice of career.

There are a few of us on here that know each other quite well as we've all been on the forum together from the beginning. Please do get involved in our 'threads', we enjoy a bit of banter and a laugh, the more people than can join in the better :)

Hope to see you all posting soon

Hi Monica

Great to have you on the forum. Apologies for the delay in posting to you, I have been away in Ireland and am trying to catch up on everything I have missed.

You said you do not have much wildlife near you. Couple of questions - What is your favourite wild animal? If you did get a pet what would it be?

Fantastic to meet you Monica!
