This is good news that the Pilot Whales seem to be out of imminent danger. When I first heard about this the other day I thought we were going to have another mass beaching.

That's good news, it would have been a tragedy.

Sadly one has been found dead nearby, seems some were showing signs of injury from possibly trying to beach else where.

That is sad TB but I know when they initially reported about them they said that some were showing signs of head injuries due to possibly hitting the rocks when they came into shallow waters. Lets hope that is the only one, I can't find anything more about them at the moment.

Thanks Doogs. It is a shame that another Whale has lost it's life and I hope the calf has been fully weaned and will survive.
I suppose on a brighter note, they are all now heading out to deeper water, so hopefully the rest of the pod is ok. Maybe they sensed the iminent death of the other whales as they said they thought originally there were two pods there and they had come together, so I wonder if both whales were from seperate pods but massed together in the same place. It is common for whales to come together if one is sick, maybe it was a coincidence that the potential two pods came together at the same time in the same place. Lets hope they will all now stay in deeper waters and be ok.

Seems the first casualty was ill and it did not die from beaching.

Though it is sad to lose a magnificent animal it is good to know it was of natural causes.
