Advance warning of a winter quiz
One that everyone can compete in,this can be photo's of foot prints, and other signs of animal life.Somtimes we get some of the most revealing insight as to what lives in your area and even visiting your garden. You're looking for signs of feeding, sometimes not very pretty Can't be botherd with a spread but we colectively score our finds between now and say the end of january.
The classics are chewed pine cones , nut with a whole with in side of it.Badger fur on a barb wire fence, owl pellets and piles of poo,if Packhams no nicked it first. So not a thread about pictures of animals, but learn to find the signs of whats around, photograph the evidence and can we then identify what it was.
This will teach us that even on a day when it seems there's nothing around you can still have an entertaining trip and learn some thing.Imagine if you find evidence of badgers in your area, knowing their footpaths will allow you to plan a trip in the warmer months where you can sit out and watch wildlfe, that maybe you didn't know was there.

I only get time to have a very quick look at the site first thing in the morning TB but I was so delighted to see this. What a wonderful idea, I am really excited about this and am definiately up for doing this, it's a brilliant idea. My eyes are now peeled and on the lookout.
Thanks TB.

Re: Advance warning of a winter quiz
Sorry TB are we looking for something that was hiding in the hole or something that was seeking out the hole? Sorry to be a bit dumb. Also do we get any clues as to where you took the picture? sometimes a bit of reference will give us a clue.
Nice link there WS, i'm sure it's going to come in handy for this quiz.

I think that may have been caused by a Badger looking for bulbs, or roots to eat

Re: Advance warning of a winter quiz
First clue was the title, the second is it's just about a full size picture,so smaller than a badger. The hole is about 2 inches deep, but could be re-visited.

It looks like the scrapes the rabbits make in the landscaping around our office at work, but the title would imply 'Hedge'hog.

Rabbit it is,there are a couple of droppings that you can just about make out.Our hedgehogs are hopefully hibernating as we had snow last night.

As it snowed today there were some tracks on the ground. I took this photo. There are two sets of tracks. One set belongs to something not native to this country, the other set is native to this country

Re: Advance warning of a winter quiz
Good try SM, but wrong. Congratulations TB, and LW. Pussy Cat it is, one big clue to that is that the back foot always lands where the front landed. Which SM explains your wooden leg .
Well remembered LW its Percy the Peacock, you were at a bit of a disadvantage there TB. I think the Peacocks photos were on before you joined
