JAMBO CHUI - Delighted to hear from you again
It certainly has been a long time but wonderful that you are back posting again, we will all look forward to your contributions in the near future.
You will probably see from looking around that there are a few of us coming over to Kenya shortly. 1st it's Anne-Marie at the end of August, I'm next arriving in Nairobi on Monday 5th September then Lai is at the end of September so lots of visitors !
We normally stay in the Serena in Nairobi but trying a fairly new hotel called The Tribe this year, have you heard of it ?
Great to hear from you again, Doogs

Re: Jambo!
Hey Doogs,
Thanks for the reply - which was fast!
Tribe is a nice boutique hotel but slightly out of Nairobi in Gigiri Area near the UN headquarters - location is good and hotel good as well only hitch is the distance - which is not an issue if you dont have much to do in Nairobi, its just that there is a lot of road construction going on in Nairobi at the moment thus traffic can be a bit of a nightmare. Whats your itineraries like?

Kubwa ya kusikia kutoka kwenu tena Chui. Karibu WAA
I hope all the family's OK, and look foreward to hearing your news from Kenya. LW's not well at the moment, but I'm sure once she's back she will be saying Hello to. I wondered if you had heard the latest news coming out about the Serengeti Road. We've posted some updates in the Invironment & Conservation Section

Hi WS,
Thanks for the karibu kubwa
The Serengeti Highway issue in my opinion is far from over! Personally I feel that this war will still rage on - I have my serious doubts on the integrity of Tanzania being committed to look for an alternate and put off the highway altogether even though they have officially written to the world so to speak. Only time will tell but for now I would not let my guard down.

Wise words Chui - I am sure you are right, reading through the articles from Serengeti Watch and AWF it seems the road will still go ahead in some shape or form.

Re: Jambo!
Asante Sana Chui for the info on the Tribe Hotel
We will not be bothered that it's slightly out of Nairobi as we will be 'chilling' for a couple of days after our Safari and before returning the UK. I believe there is a shopping mall beside the hotel which we may venture to but that will probably be it.
How far is the Hotel from Wilson Airport ? and then to NIA once we're going home ? Traffic is always busy in Nairobi so nothing new there
Itinerary is as follows: Arrive on the 3rd Sept, night in Nairobi (Mayfair Southern Hotel formerly the Holiday Inn), fly to Samburu for 2 nights in the Intrepids, fly fm there to the Mara for 4 nights in the Mara Intrepids then 2 nights at the Tribe in Nairobi - can't wait !!! We're returning to Samburu for the 1st time since our very first visit to Kenya in 2006 but this will be our 4th time in the Mara Intrepids.
I hope the Serengeti Highway rumbles on for a long time yet, the more it rumbles the longer they take to start building it, if it's going ahead !

Hi Chui!!
Good to see you here. I'm too heading off to Kenya this September! Any advice of what we can see in Nairobi (other that the DSWT, got that all booked)
Doogs, we arrive in Nairobi on 3rd September as well (6am, leaving Heathrow at 8pm on the Friday) and have one night in Nairobi before we fly down to the Mara from Wilson airport at about 11am.

Re: Jambo!
DOOGS - Nice itinerary - if you are Tribing at the end then you are fine. From Wilson to Tribe and depending on our horrendos traffic can take you an hour or slightly less and much much more if it rains. The Village Market mall is right next to the hotel so you can spend some time there and try all kinds of food at the food court.
AM - As doogs said you can enjoy some time at the Giraffe Center - http://giraffecenter.org/ - learn more about these tall and magnificent creatures and hand feed them as well. You may combine this with the Elephant orphanage, say hi to Miujiza at the animal orphanage and take lunch at Carnivore or Karen Blixen Coffee Garden. these are all in the same area so make a day out of it if you may. You may visit all the malls in Nairobi i.e. Westgate Mall, Galleria, Junction, Village Market and depending on which day you are in Nairobi you can also go curio shopping at a masai market at one of the malls.

Re: Jambo!
Anne Marie - Carnivore is very touristy and MEATY I would stay well clear!
Karen Blixen Coffee Garden and Utamaduni Craft Centre is quite fun to visit. We've not made it to Giraffe Manor yet, but hopefully this time as we've got more time in Nairobi.

Also Talisman restaurant is nice http://www.talismanrestaurant.com/

Hi Chuichui wrote:WS - I am surprised why they don't upload them regularly on their website though the reports do come regularly every month - can you guide me on how to post it in the relevant section with the photos cant seem to figure out :?:
There are a couple of ways of doing it. First if your getting it on the Internet, just post the Link as you've done on other posts, that's the easiest way. As it's a pain to copy, and paste the page, then copy pictures seperatly, and fit it into the text, the next easiest way is to take a photo of the whole page. You can do this, by clciking your start menu, clicking all programes, then choosing accessories. You will see snipping tool, click on that, the sreen goes pale, and it tells you to drag your curser around the area you want to take a photo of. You can then save it to your PC, and upload it to the forum. To find out how to do that follow the Link SM gave you in her post. I know it all sound complicated it does take a few goes to get the idea. But if you can tell me where to find their updates, or give me the link I will gladly do it, or untill you can see how to do it yourself. I always looked foreward to when you posted them, and also posting them myself as I thought they were really good. The update are posted in Wildlife Blogs section. This is the link to the post when I first started it.

Thank you Doogs, Chui and Lai.
As we are staying at Ngong house we will definitely be visiting the Giraffe Centre as that is very close by so much to cram into one day :)

There has been some truly shocking pictures of both humans and animals, it's very very sad and a desperate situation over there. Even a little of the torrential rain we had up here at the weekend would have made a difference in Africa
