Good Evening One and All
No probs with blaming me for GR's indiscretion Doogs, it made me actually. Sorry your team didn't win but at least your survived without a headache
It is always fun with Lara and Kian and never a problem to have them, they are a delight, they do wear me out but in a really good way
Oh yes GR, messages on FB that keep you do we need to know more Mrs Kipia is now going to be keeping an extra vigil on FB to see what you are getting up to my friend
WS, we have had a real mixed bag of weather today, heavy rain first thing, then sun, then cloud and heavy winds, then rain, then sunshine and just now its chucked it down, thank heavens I have already walked Nero. We too have bad weather predicted for tomorrow but not fingers crossed that doesnt happen for you.
Have a good evening everyone

Re: Welcome to everyday Lets Talk
A lack of posting from me this week, it's been another one of those busy ones at work, 10pm on Tuesday (missed my swimming ) then worked through lunch yesterday before finally finishing at 9pm (missed the Bingo ) so it's been a busy week. Didn't manage to go and see Sid yesterday with working so I went today instead and then I had the hairdresser straight after work - not complaining but can't believe it's Friday already tomorrow !!
Lai its was June time we went last year to the Mara, this year we are going in November, few months to go yet but it's great to have something to look forward to
A listen to some 'classics' is always good GR, I'm a real sucker for 80's music, love it Don't use Facebook nearly as much as I used, mostly now to keep up to date with what is going on in the Mara oh and to play Candy Crush . . . . how addictive !!!
Agree re the weather WS, it's baltic up here as well but thankfully we've managed to avoid the snow, unlike those a bit further up in Scotland I agree re the wildlife, the poor birds must not know whether they are coming or going at the moment
With that bad weather LW, looks like you got Nero's hair cut a week or so too early !! You timed his walk right tonight though by the sounds of things
Right away to my

Good morning everyone
What's happened to the weather ? I had to drive to Blyth (Notts) yesterday and it tooks hours, you can drive north/south in the UK but not West/East - the roads are rubbish and the weather coming back was atrocious!
Hope you're okay Doogs with all that snow, and also WS over those Welsh hills.
Sounds like you are working way too hard Doogs at the moment, and of course you are going in November I got all for some reason. It's great to have that to look forward to and to see the Mara at a different time of year.
Littlewid. Lai will be on GR's case for sure
Stay safe and warm today everyone - it's blowing a gale outside just now.

Re: Welcome to everyday Lets Talk
A busy week for me this week, lots to do in work and also 2 visits to the dentist
It turns out that I have an infection in my lower right wisdom tooth so its a week of Amoxicyllin for me and hopefully it will get better. The dentist has also referred me to the hospital and it looks like she would like to have my 2 bottom wisdom teeth out as they are growing horizontally. As they are not erupted it will be a bit more complicated but the right one has to come out because of the infections but she's not sure if the left one isnt too far into the jaw for the surgeon to be able to take it out without complications.
So at the moment I'm rattling with taking not only antibiotics but the pain killers (being careful not to take too much) aswell
Never mind, Springwatch starts on Monday so that should keep my mind off things

Your right Lai West to East is a only done it a few times thankfully. Had to go to the Trafford Centre today in the Add/Mobile, and the wind was really bad. With that big A Frame on the back its like a sail. I did'nt so much drive there, more sailed it
Hope you get the teeth sorted PPH, it does take a few days for the antibiotics to kick in, good idea to be careful with the painkillers, it's easy when your in so much pain to be tempted to take to many. You can have 8 paracetamol a day, and also take 6 Ibruprophen, they go together OK. Your certainly putting the hours in Doogs, be careful not to do to much

Some great banter taking place here guys
"Do we need to know more?" No, nothing really to report actually, but I will keep trying
Mrs Kipia's going to have the most boring surveilance job in the world
Crazy weather for you all and crazy work hours for Doogs too. But no matter what happens in our worlds we also have this family to come back to. Well, that's how I view this place.
November is not far off for your trip Doogs, so I bet you are counting down the days!
I like some '80's music too, though I am more of just a hits person from that decade, and generally the songs from its second half. The '90's and beyond I become more of an album listener.
Nice to hear that your teething problem as been identified PPH. Surely it can only be onwards and upwards for you from now on
With my car, I think the outcome is not as bad as first thought. I assumed I only had 3rd party insurance, but after checking my records I actually have full comprehensive (typical of me not to take note of the important things in life, too much rubbish swimming around up here and not letting the vital stuff in ). So a long story short, I have only had to pay the excess amount, and should be getting the damage on mine fixed in the next fortnight.
Looking forward to watching the Giro tonight...if it's on It's the last important stage, and the course has already been greatly watered down due to the That has been fortunate for Australia's Cadel Evans as he remains in second place overall, but seems to be weakening in this final week.

Re: Welcome to everyday Lets Talk
Decided I need a fix of African wildlife and some decent weather so I am off to Zambia next week (5 June) for 10 days. I am going to the Lower Zambezi National Park and staying at Kasaka River Lodge on the banks of the Zambezi. I have been to Zambia a couple of times before but this will be my first visit to the Lower Zambezi and hopefully it will give me a chance to explore and spend time on one of Africa's great rivers. The lodge has its own boats and canoes for river trips as well as the usual vehicle game drives. Although it will be well into winter in Zambia the weather should be dry and sunny (summer is their wet season) but the evenings and early mornings will probably be quite cold so I am packing gloves, scarf and a beanie!! The vehicles they use are completely open, unlike Kenya, so you are always exposed to the elements. The only downside is that I will miss the activity on my local pond and I just hope the swans do not hatch their eggs until I get back and that there are still some ducklings around!! Hopefully I will return with lots of photos and stories to post.

Safariman I am with envy. How fantastic and what a great time to go, I've only been in November when it is baking hot. You'll have a brilliant time as long as you wrap up warm in the early mornings/late evening Our vehicles there were covered so I guess each Lodge has different.
We'll miss the updates on your pond but will have Zambia updates and news to look forward to when you're back.

The weather here yesterday on Bank Holiday Monday was awful wind, and rain all day. Plus its just started raining again today Hope everyone else had better weather, and a good weekend

Good Evening One and All
Doogs you are still working too hard for sure, I hope you had a good relaxing time over the BH and didn't do any extra work.
PPH I hope your feeling better and the Anti Bs are having the desired effect, I bet you will be glad when this is all over, probems with your teeth are not nice.
WS, it's not fair you have to work over the BH, we need to make a stand for you.........NO BH'S for WS a shame the weather has been awful for you as well, that makes it even less fun. Hopefully you had a lie in this morning and could put your feet up during the day as well.
Safariman.........WOW that will be wonderful and not long to go now, how exciting, I have never been there so am looking forward to all your wonderful stories and pictures. I am sure you are going to have the most wonderful time. I will greatly miss your updates on your pond activities though and lets hope all is well when you get back......maybe that could be your first update as I will be busting for news don't forget to say Tarra before you go
We had a smashing BH, the weather has been good all weekend and yesterday was glorious. We had a BBQ at my sisters with all the family which was just so lovely, lots of food and very excited little ones which was brilliant. Caught Springwatch there and then went and saw Emma & Toms new home, it's gorgeous and they are all very happy there even the 3 cats Hippy the Maine Coon, Fiji the Egyptian Mow and Saffie the Siamese.
It's done nothing but pour with rain today but thankfully it's stopped now but i have had a lovely weekend with lots of planting, cream tea, Latte, shopping and lots of lovely family time.
Springwatch tonight
Have a great evening everyone

Re: Welcome to everyday Lets Talk
Right, it's nearly 11.30pm so last post for the night on here before heading to my
I missed posting on here on Friday as I had a couple of things to do at lunchtime then it was out at night with the girls. 11 of us went to a charity doo where for £5 we got a cocktail, cupcake and then we all watched Dirty Dancing on the big screen. There was a raffle after and our table did rather well - we did buy a lot of tickets so it was deserved We also did roll a £1 coin nearest the bottle and again our table scooped up with getting the 3 prizes that were on offer and I will admit to getting nearest of all
Oooh how wonderful you are off to Zambia next week Safariman and for 10 days Sounds a fantastic trip and we'll all look forward to your photos and stories on your return. I hope the lower Zambezi brings you some different sightings Fingers crossed the swan eggs are still intact when you return and will wait for you to get back before hatching
Good to hear you had a busy Bank Holiday Weekend WS, I hope it was all play and no work
All that teeth problems sound rather painful PPH. Glad they have got to the bottom of what the problem is but the removal of your wisdom teeth sorry, rather you than me
GR . . . .
You certainly had a good BH LW (unfortunately I was working Monday, we don't get that day off ). Nice to hear the was shining and it was perfect weather for a BBQ Glad to hear Emma, Tom and the family (inc the furries) have all settled into their new home.
Was swimming after work tonight, then it's off to the bingo tomorrow night

Doogs, that is so not fair
Shame about the Bingo but for next week.
Yes, you did notice an S
We went to the greyhound rescue in Nantwich yesterday afternoon to meet Princess Liz (her racing name) and I have checked on-line for details, she has raced locally and won a few races but obviously now is unwanted and too old to be of any use ooooooh that makes me
She was born in June 2006 so coming up for 7 and is black and white and very excitable. I think this is due to her surroundings, very noisy with 16 greyhounds waiting to be rehomed. We took her outside and let her settle with us, after about 5 minutes she stopped trying to leap all over us (bad habit when I have brides and their guests around). She's a delight, quite small and very lovely despite her awful teeth, due to having a bad diet as they all do.
We are returning next Wednesday with Tamu to see how they get on, it is not a decision to be taken lightly as to return a greyhound would be awful
We also looked at the other 15 - only 3 bitches, Princess, Patch and Gypsy. It nearly broke my heart of course and I was very seeing all these lovely dogs waiting to find their forever home - I think Pete is encouraging me to take more and work less
Gypsy is making me just thinking about her and her life. She is only 2 and has never raced, apparently they couldn't get her into the trap, which makes me think how scared she must have been. She is so nervous and wanted desperately to come and say hello and just couldn't. So we took her outside and I sat close to her and waited for about 10 minutes before I approached her. She eventually relaxed a little and I was able to stroke her. It was just so pitiful to see such a young and beautiful dog so scared. Whilst I would do anything to help her get over this I am not sure life with us and a bouncy Ridgeback would be good. She might panic and run away every time my office door is opened, I think she needs to be at home with someone who is retired and give her plenty of love and quiet times.
And that is only one local greyhound rescue place near us!
All being well Princess who will be known as Kip will be part of our family soon as long as Tamu gives the

Re: Welcome to everyday Lets Talk
Lets hope Tamu gives her the . That is such a shame about the other Dogs, and Gypsy. I think it should be madatory for a percentage of all prize money to be put in a fund to care for these Dogs, not only to hlep rehome them, but also to help with any vet fees, that they may have in the future. I'm sure that's something that could put people off having them as they worry about what health problems they might have to deal with later in life, and the high costs of Vets. I dont know if the do at the moment, but I also think it should be mandatory that all Dogs are examined by a Vet before the start of races, especialy as you say that such a lot of the Dogs have bad teeth, through the diet.

Re: Welcome to everyday Lets Talk
WS - these dogs are just discarded like a piece of rubbish after their careers are over, well maybe I am being harsh in some cases perhaps that isn't the case, but it is sport enjoyed by many and to what end? I imagine in the UK there are thousands waiting for their forever home.
They are always micro-chipped and spayed or neutered but the older ones always need attention to their teeth. The cost of a greyhound when you take one on is a minimum of £100 to cover costs, a pedigree dog costs many £££s so why not charge a little more and ensure they have had a good and thorough health check from a vet beforehand?

Oh Lai, I've got a lump in my throat reading that especially about Gypsy What a tough tough decision you and Pete have got re which dogs to choose but along with the help of Tamu I know you will make the right decision. Like GR, you may have some teething problems but with time, love, care and understanding, which you definitely have all, you will get there.
I think Pete is encouraging me to take more and work less

Re: Welcome to everyday Lets Talk
Sounds like you had a good Friday evening Doogs just a shame about the Bingo but as you say, there is always next week, i'll keep my fingers crossed for you
Well it sounds as though as long as Tamu says YES Princess Liz will have a new name and a new loving forever home lets hope all goes well on Wednesday
What a sad story about Gypsy, for a young dog to be so scared is just heart breaking but I believe you are right Lai, a calm home with someone who is around most of the time to help build her trust and to have lots of lovely cuddles on the sofa is probably just what she needs. Lets hope that someone comes along very soon for her and her whole life turns around for the better.
It is so upsetting to know so many dogs are just thrown away when they are no longer any use. What makes me incredibly mad is they use these lovely dogs to earn money and then cant even be bothered to feed them well, it's disgraceful.
I agree with what WS said about putting some of the winnings back into looking after these dogs, it shouldn't be left to kind hearted people to pick up the pieces but in all respects where animals are concerned this is nearly always the case.
I bet you and Pete can't wait for next Wednesday.......Please like Kip Tamu
Mmmmmm less working and more dogs........it wouldn't be something I would have to think about Lai..........DOGS, DOGS, DOGS, DOGS, ALL THE WAY, Petes my kinda man, what a heart
On another note, my boy and I have just had a really soggy walk in the pouring rain
Have a good evening everyone

Re: Welcome to everyday Lets Talk
And for once we have some so Tamu and I managed a lovely walk
More news, we are going to meet April on Saturday, another 6 year old greyhound at another local greyhound rescue place. She has bad feet poor thing but is on anti biotics so will hopefully be okay soon.
If we and Tamu decide we can take 2 we will take one at a time and allow one to settle in first so it's not too chaotic here
Have a good evening and enjoy Springwatch -

for Pete Doogs, time you did less hours, and had more of a Dogs life . Less work would do you good
Good idea to let them settle in one at a tine, Tamu willing. It would also be better for Tamu giving her time to adjust to new friends

Soooo much to catch up on here.
There is a lot of thunder and lightning in Melbourne tonight; I will be off to bed very shortly and will probably even allow the pooches to join me. Bella gets rather scared in these situations and was under the desk before, and is now hiding elsewhere...probably already in my bed!
I think we can all feel some of the heartache that you felt Lai going to the greyhound shelter. It's the not being able to take them all home. But be confident that the others will find good homes too, and I hope that Tamu hits it off with Kip, and how is this for something cool?! An awesome girl I know recently had her dog also sadly pass away (maybe even about the same day as Penny?), and this girls middle name is Elizabeth (Liz)and her first name? Kate (Princess)! And the name of her late dog? Kip! It really is true what they say; often life is stranger than fiction
and One of biggest thunders ever just went off, and the electricity didn't go out, but light in main room did Very weird (or eccentric )! So I got up to check the light switch, and as I did nearly shut my chair legs in on...Bella I didn't even know she was there. Oh me oh my. This is horrible dog owner signing off...darling pooches coming to bed with me. Love you WAA folk; have a great weekend one and all

GR - life surely is strange and full of coincidences. I am sure Bella and Leo will be more than happy with you snuggled up in bed to brave the some poor dogs really hate storms and get so frightened.
Have a great weekend too and to Leo and Bella especially.

Yes, the pooches were delighted to come to bed with me last night
Bellawoo was up to some antics this morning I gave her a couple of opportunites to go outside and do her business but she thought better of it as it was rather cold and light drizzle. Anyhoo, I'd put the heater on in the bathroom for a shower, but then went to the loo beforehand. With a nice fresh towell on the floor and Bella couldn't resist
I am at work just now I have been doing some work. Do you believe me?
