Re: Badger Cull Protest
WS It would be a real achievement if it could be stopped in England but I reckon it's going to take a real battle especially as they have set the date for August already. We just need to keep hitting the Government with how much a waste of money it is as I think thats the only way they will listen, I don't think they are too concerned about the Badgers it all comes down to money with them. Lets hope that we can be as successful as Wales.

I too have signed the 38 degrees petition. I don't believe killing the Badgers is the answer and it's cruel. sambuka

Re: Badger Cull Protest
another sad story that the cull may completely wipe out the badger population in some areas but the cull may be against european law

You beat me to it PPH. It was on the Welsh News tonight. They are going for a 5 Year Vaccination plan, and are looking at vaccinating cattle, but this will rely on the EU allowing the export of cattle

Re: Badger Cull Protest
I seriously pray with all my heart that this cull does not get the go ahead. It has been proved that it will not alter the situation, it will only make it worse and so many beautiful badgers would have been killed for nothing.
For once I really hope this goes the animals way and these wonderful creatures are saved and not slaughtered.

Littlewid. If they decide to go ahead I am joining whatever/whoever decides to start up a protest whether it's in Westminster or locally, this makes me so sick and mad.

Re: Badger Cull Protest
At least in Wales they are going down the vaccine road. I dont understand how they can ignore what happened when they did culls before, it jut pushes the problem over wider area, as Badgers move out.

Re: Badger Cull Protest
I wished others would take the lead from Wales too WS, that is the sensible approach.
I will also do my best Lai here to support anything that is in support of the Badger if the ruling goes ahead here, it is something that you cant just talk about and then sit back and do nothing, I know a lot of us signed the petition agaisnt the ruling but if the ruling gets passed I imagine they will need far tougher support to protect the Badgers and we must do all we can to help them.

Re: Badger Cull Protest
Lia that all makes for very sad and disturbing reading. Why on earth can't they adopt the Wales approach, it has already been proved that culling will not stop te spread of bTB. Others have also voiced their concern that many healthy Badgers will be slaughtered as there are no plans to check whether they have bTB or not.
It is insane to spend so much money on slaughtering when their is evidence it could actually make the situation worse.
I also have a fear that not just farmers will go out to slaughter, there are people out there who will think it's fun to hunt out Badgers and shoot them and think it's ok because a cull is on.
I really am so mad at this decision. Yes I am not a farmer and I have not had to have my cows destroyed through bTB but if I was a farmer I would hope that I would see that this action is not the answer.
I really hope the Badger Trust do decide to appeal this ludicrous decision.
The Badger Trust is not a million miles from me, so I will try and make contact during the week to see whats happening round here and if I can help in any way.
I have signed both petitions this evening.

Re: Badger Cull Protest
Great that you have signed as well WS, I don't know if it does make a difference but if people from Wales also sign it may also help them to think about appealing it becuase then it's not just people from the areas under threat that are signing.
Lai I am really praying this doesn't go any further, it just doesn't bear thinking about does it but if it does go ahead it makes you want to go and stand in the fields with a gun yourself to ward off the shooters.
