I have only just seen this WS. It is sad to hear they are in decline but i'm sure we had some sparrows in our wisteria this year scratch but I will be looking at putting some sparrow friendly bushes in the garden next year.

We really are doing well with our Sparrows. I estimate we have a flock of about 30 now, which when you consider we did'nt have any that we saw when we first moved here is really pleasing

I need to think about this, I only saw one this year, although they may be there somewhere. I see plenty at the farm down the road so need to encourage them over here Very Happy

On a bright note I've seen plenty of house martins and swallows these last few blustery days, presumably the swallows are picking up lots of insects before they migrate.

I think your right there Lai. The Swallows here were having a field day while the winds were on. They were swooping around, and really low all over the place. Our Sparrows go mad on the fat balls, and the seed. Like you we live in a farm area, and all though we did'nt see any at first, after we started putting the feeder out, we had a little group of about half a dozen. Over the last couple of years they have really increased in numbers. It really is a laugh when I put the fatballs out at tea time its a question of how many Sparrows can you get on 3 fat balls. I will try to get a photo of them

That would be wonderful WS. I really miss seeing the Sparrows, I suppose it's because i've always taken them for granted. We saw plenty in Bilbao, they had a lovely park there, so at least I have seen some.

Funny about the Swallows, I was driving through the field and had to stop several times as they were swooping so low and fast over and around me, dodging my little white car - it was a lovely sight, but one for a video not a camera What a Face

Yes they are much to fast foe a camera, and you would'nt get the effect. Trouble was on Monday the wind was that stong where they were flying you would have had a problem keeping them in the frame

How many sparrows can you get on 3 fatballs ?

Sparrows & Gardens 00614
Plus a few on the seed feeder
Sparrows & Gardens 00812
I'd only just put these out. The Sparrows are lined up on the ridge waiting
Sparrows & Gardens 00912
And as soon as I go in they are down

They are greedy little devils, but the numbers have really grown so the food must be doing them good
