We get a lot of Common and Surf Scoters winter in Lunan Bay,which is a mile from my house.
I've been up to Sutherland and Caithness, but didn't make it to the "flows",really must put it on my list of things to do next year.

You are right TB, that is a delight that they appear to be doing so well. I must admit it is not a duck I had heard of, maybe it's because they are a rare bird or because they breed farther North than I am, I don't know. It would be lovely for you to get to the flows next year and see them and hopefully their numbers would have increased further by then.

They can be found in the winter right round the british coast, usually in sheltered bays a fair distance out.You need a telescope really,to get a good view.

I will have to keep a much closer eye out for them TB. Although that said we don't have many, if any sheltered bays along the coast in Sussex, not sure if they will venture to the wildlife Wetlands in Arundel but I can always go see.

Thats good news. Nice to hear that they are doing so well. We have a couple of Bays near us, but they are not sheltered, with a North Westerly wind it can be really rough in them

They winter at sea along with Velvet and Surf Scoters.

I can surely check our coast line out TB but we don't have any real bays although the coastline of Worthing does dip in a bit, so you never know. My Brother-in-Law has a much better camera than me so maybe I can get him to come venturing along the coast with me, luckily he is a bit of a wildlife fan too. I will surely take my Bino's with me when I go looking though.
