Ray Mears on TV
Nearly missed this, just before Autumn Watch, but on STV(Scottish ITV),Ray Mears doing a wildlife program, rather than his usual survival stuff.Filmed not far from me,must try to get up there next spring as I've still not seen a male Capercaillie.

Re: Ray Mears on TV
I don't know what I thought Ray Mears looked like but it certainly wasn't that !!
Some lovely shots of the Red you can never tire of looking at those beautiful animals.
"The series is a co-production between ITV Studios and leading multi-channel broadcaster UKTV. 6 x 30-minute episodes will first be shown on ITV1 beginning early-October 2010, followed in 2011 by extended 60-minute episodes with exclusive additional content, which will be broadcast on UKTV’s natural history channel Eden"

Re: Ray Mears on TV
Thanks for that extra bit Doogs, I will look out for it on Eden. Ray mears has a presenting style that makes you just want to see more.
You are right, the red squirrels were just adorable weren't they, they were shown in such a lovely setting last night as well and it's good to know that they were getting the protection they needed.

Tb, I missed this too, but must admit I always assumed anything with Ray in it was always survival, so probably would not have watched it anyway. I wont be making that mistake again!

Somehow, this program feels very short, stopping for the adverts doesn't help either.

Re: Ray Mears on TV
I have'nt watched yesterdays yet, but it's only a 1/2 Hr programe on ITV, so when you take the adverst out, as TB says it's only going to be a short one

Re: Ray Mears on TV
Tonights program included Fallow Deer rutting, now these are easier to find in southern England and their rutt is several weeks before Reds normally. This may account, along with the record warm October, why our Reds aren't rutting properly.

Watched last night's programme having not seen any previous ones and enjoyed it. Loved seeing the deer.

Re: Ray Mears on TV
Saw this last night, I love the programme. Loving the Badgers from last night and also the peregrin Falcon with her chicks. She was the one they ringed on Chichester cathedral, I think I mentioned them last year when we were watching another Peregrin cam and I forgot to check the cathedral cam this year. Anyway her 3 chicks were beautiful and they are all now ringed.
I loved the way he did a bit of survival stuff in the lighting of the fire in the woods......good old Ray

This program is being destroyed by the adverts on ITV,shame as it is informative and quite well shot.

Quite agree with you TB, have'nt watched the last two yet, but what I've been doing is recording them, and watching two together, fast forwarding through all the adverts

Shame this is only on for half an hour but last nights was another lovely one, I wished it was on for longer. You'll love it when you watch it WS so wont say anything about it now.

Re: Ray Mears on TV
Again, apart from the ads last nights programme didn't disappoint. It will be a real shame when this series ends, it has been brilliant. Hope you remembered to sky+ this as well last night WS.

I thought the Norfolk one was very good last week, made my mind up to have another holiday down that way next year.I've got a very old photograph of a Swallowtail butterfly somewhere,a nice one with my new camera is up at the top of my list.

Re: Ray Mears on TV
I agree TB, the Norfolk programme was really good and reminded me of my holidays there as a child.
Would love to see your old photograph of the Swallowtailed butterfly and fingers crossed you get one with your new camera.

Re: Ray Mears on TV
Tonights program was superb in the Cairngorms, barely an hour from me,just a pity his seasons were out,it was springtime in the program.
He struggled to find a Ptarmigan too,our trip last weekend up to the Lecht produced Red Grouse and White Hares, but still no White birds.Snow Buntings are in the area, not seen any yet this winter.Hopefully if there's no more snow,we'll be on the mountains again with the camera.

Re: Ray Mears on TV
MIssed it I keep forgetting its not on ITV Wales, have to switch to the English Channel. Hopefully it will repeat on the Wales Channel sometime. It will be great if you get some photos of White Rabbits, Snow Buntings, and I know you really want to get one of the Ptarmigan in winter plumage
