Eastern Lowland Gorillas

Thanks Paulo Sergio Carrani for sharing the image of Ian Redmond, we are closer to Gorilla's than many wish to believe but their niche was all ready well occupied when we came along and had to settle for less stable and much narrower riverine forests of East Africa.
Our second day filming gorillas in 3D started well, until Chimanuka and family disappeared under a thicket - but when we saw the results of filming under dense bushes, the 3D made it look fantastic - coming soon to a cinema near you in 2013... Today (18.3.12), the gorillas were tetchy for some reason, and just before i...t started to pour we left them to their own devices - these are stills from my parting shot of Chimanuka the silverback high in a tree plucking and eating vine leaves. If you like these, you'll love this and other videos on www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjwlytKg0j8
While the 3D film crew were filming rangers on patrol today (22.3.12), I had the pleasure of joining four visitors to Chimanuka's Group - it was an outstanding day with about a dozen gorillas sunning, groomng, snoozing and playing in a hairy heap. Fantastic!
