Manatee Mother & Calve

This film is from Florida, Crystal River. Swimming with the Manatees an experience of a live time I have to say. 

Manatees are large, fully aquatic, mostly herbivorous marine mammals sometimes known as sea cows. There are three accepted living species of Trichechidae, representing three of the four living species in the order Sirenia: the Amazonian manatee (Trichechus inunguis), the West Indian manatee (Trichechus manatus), and the West African manatee (Trichechus senegalensis). They measure up to 13 feet (4.0 m) long, weigh as much as 1,300 pounds (590 kg) ( Wikipedia)

Great clip Mickey, they sort of remind me of hippos.

Yes they do seem a bit alike, but I have to say I rather swim with Manatees than Hippos lol

I like your humour Mickey.  So would I for sure.   I love watching hippos and listening to them but from a safe distance!

 Brilliant Video Micky thanks. I remember seeing Manatees on a couple of wildlife progames. They really are gentle giants. A close encounter with a Hippo  no thanks, they kill more people in Africa than any other animals

Great underwater video!

We are returning to Florida this winter (for Christmas) hoping to see the wintering Manatees and really hopeful of seeing a Florida black bear (they don't sleep due to the mild weather).
