WOW WOW WOW So fantastic to have Karula back again WS, we have followed her so much before, can't wait for the cub/cubs fingers crossed. Mvula is so stunning from his picture and he is so enormous compared to Karula and I must say those mating cries were something else, a brilliant video. Also it's strange how only in 2010 Mvula mated Karula's daughter Thandi, he is a one isn't he Very Happy
A brilliant find WS and that has just put a huge smile on my face this evening cheers

Yes, WS, the Djuma Safari drives were the reason why I bought iPad in 2011. The drives were on always when I was on my way to work or back home, and that was the only way to see any of them. tongue
Karula was always my favorite, and I often thought she and Darla in Tallinn were similar, both being such great mothers. :)
I even saw Safari on one of the drives... :!: It was so sad when it ended.

From Kurula & Family's Photo FB Page

Arathusa Rangers Diary April 7 - 13 ...Tuesday April 9 "We then heard on the radio that Karula and her two small cubs had been spotted, so we rushed off to see them. It was particularly special to see the little ones – still tiny and very curious about the vehicles – which gave our guests a great viewing experience. Saturday April 13: This morning was a fairly quiet one, but we did manage one awesome sighting. After some tough tracking, we eventually managed to find one of our female leopards, Karula, and her two cubs. The three of them were strolling along the road and eventually moved off towards a fallen tree. This was when things got interesting as we watched the three run up and down chasing each other. Then a full wrestling match ensued with the two little boys trying to wrestle their mother to the ground, but with little success. We eventually left the small family as Karula led them down into a cool drainage line as the morning was heating up." http://blog.arathusa.co.za/2013/04/rangers-diary-7-13-april-2013/

As I posted on the Wildearth TV thread Safari Drive is coming back. which is good. But sadly it's going to be further north than last time, and that will be outside of Kurula's area Crying or Very sad. Ther is a chance though that we might get to see Induna and Mixo they have been seen close to that area.

Great news - Karula's boys have been named. 'Quarantine Male' and 'Kunyuma'

An update from Djuma Game Reserve

An exciting morning as the decision has been made and Karula's cubs have been named!! They are not quite independent yet and will continue to stay with 'MUM' f...or quite sometime to come, however they are venturing off on their own allot more lately and so we felt it was time. Quarantine Male, is certainly living up to his name as he has been hanging around our quarantine area for the last 3 days. He is the more aggressive of the two males which at the moment is one of his distinct characteristics. I believe he is going to grow up to be one fierce male. Kunyuma ( one of the Tsonga meanings for shy) is definitely my favorite of the two. He has a very meek and placid nature. Kunyuma, will often avoid eye contact with the vehicle and slink off to seek the safety of a branch or shrub. I will en-devour in the next few days to try and get a close up picture of each boy, so we can... as they say.... " put a name to a face". I am excited to see what Mother Nature has in store for these two beautiful boys..!!

A short Video of the Boys grooming each other earlier this morning

and one of Kurula and one of the Boys relaxing on the dam wall yesterday

What two fantastic clips WS, I so enjoyed seeing them, warms your heart to see them and looking so fantastic and Karula as well. I tell you what though, and you will remember them as well. These two boys are so like Mixo and Induna. Mixo was the cheeky one and Induna was the more laid back shy one. So it looks as if Karula has two males who resemble her cubs from two years ago. Quarantine male is just sounding like Mixo and Kunyuma like Induna, isn't that strange but lovely. I so loved watching Mixo and Induna, I hope we get to see a lot more of these two as well.

Another great view of Quarantine and Kunyuma, it's lovely to see how they are with each other, it seems such a shame that they will part, and go their own ways before long

The Boys have been around Djuma Waterhole for the last few days, although Karula has not been seen, but I have a feeling this was her the the night after the Boys were there up a Tree

They certainly are lovely together aren't they WS, they are stunning boys and they have a nice affection for each other and they still remind me so much of Mixo and Induna, they had a wonderful bond and it was sad to see them go their separate ways but that is how it is and it will be the same for Quarantine and Kunyuma. You get so used to seeing them grow up and hanging around with each other it's hard to imagine they have to separate so I suppose we have to make the most of the time we see them together.

I would like to think that was Karula up the tree, I would imagine it probably was her. When Mixo and Induna were almost ready to go their separate ways Karula spent less time around them and do you remember when they were set to go Karula came and spent time with each of them separately and then that was it, they all split up. I wonder if this is what she will do with Quarantine and Kunyuma.

Two lovely videos, thanks for that  Very Happy

Quick update. Kurula has given birth, her Cub/s ? were sighted a few days ago in a cave. These are her first since the last were killed by the Hyena, the site is being made out of bounds, and hopefully we will get glimpses as they grow older on the drives as they move around, but the fe3eling is she should be left alone as much as possible, so she doesn't get distracted like last time by to many vehicles round her
