Amazing pictures of a Kestrel and a female Barn Owl fighting over food. The Barn Owl had her lunch when the Kestrel swooped in and stole it from her. It a shame the Barn Owl lost out but rather that than being hurt and unable to fly and hunt as she may have had young to feed.

WOW Amazing shots and sad that they were both having to fight over the same vole, I think there's another shortage this year which makes it tough for barn owls and kestrels.

Thanks for sharing Littlewid a really amazing story.

Incredible photos thanks LW. I didn't think a kestrel would take on a Barn Owl to be honest. The Water Vole population has dropped by a 5th since 2011, the latest Bank Vole numbers I can find from British Wildlife are 2.3 million pre breeding season, but I'm not sure what dates that from

Im pleased you both enjoyed the pictures. I didnt realise a Kestrel would take on a Barn Owl either and it is sad they are fighting over the same food source. I know the Owl is a female but I wonder if the Kestrel was too and they were both feedi g young. Its a shame the vole numbers are declining but it seems to be so for so many animals isnt it....the only thing thats on the Increase is people!!!!!!
