Highest living tigers found in Himalayas
20 September 2010 Last updated at 08:25 Help Television footage shot by the BBC's Natural History Unit has provided the first evidence that tigers can live and breed at extremely high altitudes.
The team filmed the animals, normally found in jungle habitats, more than 4,000 metres high in the Himalayas.
Experts say the discovery could make it easier to create a conservation corridor, linking populations of the endangered felines across Asia.
John Kay reports.
Lost Land of the Tiger will be broadcast on BBC One at 21.00BST on Tuesday 21st, Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd September.

Re: Land of the Lost Tigers
Saw the report on the news last night. I will be watching.
Gordon Buchanan was in disbelief at what he was seeing and really really made you feel privileged to be sharing the moment of this discovery.

Common sense and the tiger October 2010
By: Carey L Biron
Contrary to the recent hubbub over the ‘discovery’ of tigers living at high altitudes in Bhutan, a Nepali wildlife biologist made this finding almost a decade ago – but never received credit.
The full article is a big read but well written and amazing.

Re: Land of the Lost Tigers
I still need to catch up with these programmes but I was talking to a friend yesterday who is very supportive of the Tiger and she expressed a concern that now these Tigers have been largly highlighted they could be at risk of poaching by the Chinese for Tiger parts.

I know Lai, in my book there are some discoveries that are good and safe to share and others that should be left alone for the sake of the animals, sometimes keeping quiet is the kindest thing to do.
