I agree Littlewid and WS. They won't be satisfied until all the badgers in the UK have been culled and then Btb will still exist as other animals carry it and the badger population will have been murdered for no good reason.

That is my biggest worry Lai, they really dont give a damn about the Badgers and what is right or wrong or the scientific evidence, its all about them not backing down and doing the right thing and appeasing the farmers.......who runs this country for gods sake Mad it is just all so upsetting and the poor Badger has been caight in the middle of it all and itsnot their fault at all, so it is out right murder of an innocent species.

Gloucestershire badger cull ends as targets missed

Natural England said there was "no realistic prospect" of the cull meeting its target
The badger cull in Gloucestershire is being called off because not enough animals are expected to be killed to meet targets

Thank god common sense has come to the forefront at last. The targets were not being met and many Badgers have lost their lives. This has all been rather a shambles from the start and should never have been allowed to go ahead, the evidence always said it wouldnt work. The Badger groups have done a brilliant job in saving many Badgers lives and for now their is calm but the cull was given license to run over 4 years so no doubt this is not the end, which is very sad indeed.

You notice that when asked why so many Badgers had not been culled or seen, he sat it could be for a whole lot of different reasons. It could be because of the protesters, it could be because of the weather, it could be because of the Gunmen. I dont supppose for one minute that it could be that the Badgers moved out of the area, into surrounding counties when the realised they were being persicuted, and murderd, and those that were carrying TB are now in other areas spreading it even further. Which would'nt have happened if they had been vacinated.

Thanks for posting that WS. I've got so wrapped up in all this cull stuff that I haven't been posting anything on it Embarassed

Lots of interesting reports coming in from the cull areas and this is certainly good news for now. But this does not mean the end of the badger cull. Simon King as President of the Wildlife Trust posted a good clip.

I mentioned some time ago that we had Btb here and it is confirmed on two farms. We are trying to get the farmers to agree to vaccination but I think we are going to struggle with this. We are hoping for a meeting with them, our local badger group and an expert on the vaccination programme. I will keep you posted.

Hopefully you'll get the Farmers to go with the vaccination programe. At least the news of whats happened in Gloucester should have them thinking that a cull is not going to work. Also there is a precident for vaccination working. How was TB virtualy eradicated from Humans in Britain, it was'nt by shooting anyone who had it. It was done by a well planned vaccination programe.

badger cull - Badger Cull Protest - Page 16 111
Dear Supporter,

Following the unexpected cancellation of the pilot cull extension in Gloucestershire, there is an important debate in parliament on Wednesday, 11 December to discuss the future of the culls. Take urgent a_ction for badgers now!

The pilots look to have been a colossal failure from start to finish and now scientific experts have warned that failure to ‘reach minimum targets’ (i.e. slaughter enough badgers!) in not one, but both pilot areas, could actually make the spread of TB in cattle worse!

1,861 badgers have been needlessly slaughtered since August and even though the pilot culls are now finished, the battle for badgers is far from over.

Despite the pilots’ failure to prove that culling badgers is practical, achievable and ‘humane’, the culls could soon roll out across England without MPs having the chance to discuss the pilots. History can not be allowed to repeat itself!

Email your MP now and urge them to attend this important debate and ask for their voice to be counted before any decision on the badger cull roll out. Act for badgers ahead of Wednesday’s debate!

Thank you so much for all your support,

I've also done the same with our MP but he and I have discussed this many times to no avail. Perhaps we can hope that some of our MP's will now finally see sense.

Thanks for that Lai. The nearest thing to me is the London to Brighton Bike ride, so I think I will sponsor Marc on his ride.

If there are any fundraising events at Adlington please let me know, I can always see what I can donate to something.

Thanks  Littlewid, that's a brilliant idea. Sadly we are missing the two closest marches but we're going on a training day on 22nd February to learn how to survey for setts, we're going to be busy in Cheshire trying to get a vaccination programme running.

That will be really interesting Lai and brilliant to know how to survey for setts. The more Badger lovers that know how to spot them and keep an eye on them the better.

I really hope you are able to get a vaccination program started, that would so benefit the Badgers in your area. Please keep us updated on that one.
