Re: Bug challenge
It does look like a Sheildbug Lai. I found this picture of one
I think there are different ones. This one has two antenae whereas TB's one only has one so i'm not too sure either.
It's a great picture though TB.

Re: Bug challenge
Perhaps TB's started life with 2 antenae and it got broken or something. Although it's different to your picture Littlewid, it's definitely a similar shape and form. (I love the colouring)

Re: Bug challenge
Mmmmm maybe it did start off with two antenae Lai and lost one. It does seem that the concensus is it's a Sheildbug.Their colours are lovely aren't they.
Anymore bugs for us to be guessing on TB?

Re: Bug challenge
Sorry Lai, didn't realise you had guessed this as well. I've just been looking on a butterfly site and found RINGLET too. The one I have found has more spots so maybe it's not but I cant find anything else at the moment.
I wonder if this is a juvenille one and they get more spots as they get older? but then again butterflys don't live too long so maybe thats not the case.
I will keep searching :study:

Re: Bug challenge
Cor this is getting tough I've looked on the Norfolk Butterfly Conservation site and they don't list it.
I have had a look at Moths.....incase your having a twist to this one TB ......and the only Moth I can come up with is a FALSE MOCHA. It does look like this one but not exact. Just looking on another Norfolk site and I see the Meadow Brown but you say it's not that TB.....back to the site again. Ooo this is getting I have looked on the site again that lists the norfolk butterflys and I can't see it. I can only guess either SMALL HEATH OR GRAYLING but I don't believe it's either of those.
How you doing Lai :?:

Re: Bug challenge
Still ....................... and not doing too well. I can't find anything exact, well obviously otherwise we'd have guessed
Checked UK butterfly website and nothing as an exact match. So going to find Pete's book and have a look ........... Is it a moth I am wondering? But you've checked Littlewid

Re: Bug challenge
Not good on these things as you know, but I've had a search, and the nearest I can see at the moment is a Female Grayling, or a Male Scotch Argus although the rings do'nt really match up on that one

Re: Bug challenge
I think the Shieldbug could also be a stinkbug nymph.
Is the butterfly one of the fritillery family?
