Re: York Hols
Great Pics PPH.
I love history/archaeology/geneology so the dig and Dick Turpins headstone are really interesting. I wouldnt have seen much of York as I would have been standing at the dig all day.

Re: York Hols
according to the tour guide Dick Turpin used the name John Palmer as Palmer was his mother's maiden name. What is great about the archaeological dig is that everything they have found once its cleaned up is put in an exhibition in the city centre so you can see it all.
I love history/archaeology/genealogy and too and I'm not sure if you watched a year or so ago on channel (i think) that there was a documentary on a gladiator cemetery and from the skeletons they managed to find out what type of gladiator they were and hey did a reconstruction. Well in the city centre they have the exhibition and the skeletons are on show in glass cases just as they found them. You can get up really close and see all of the injuries on their bones

Re: York Hols
Theres so much to see in York isn't there and your pictures give a great insight PPH. Loving our feathered friends ones but I too would have been at that dig site, infact I would have wanted to dig, it's fascinating isn't it and I like that they put everything they find in the dig into an exhibition for all to see.
If you too 100 pics, there must be more you can show.......would love to see more

Thats a very imposing building isn't it but stunning, I love the architecture and no way could it bore us PPH, it's an impressive sight.
Oooooo bet your partner feels a tad silly and what a shame for you both to loose those pics, but never mind, maybe you just need to go and do it all over again sometime.
Thanks for posting more pics

Re: York Hols
When I was looking at the pictures from York I noticed that I could see the ring number on the Greylag Goose picture that I put on here. So I contacted the BTO with the details when and where I saw the Goose and I got this response this morning. I now know its a female and obviously not much of a traveller and what is really great is that my sighting is the last one in the list so I have made a contribution to her record :) :) :) :) :)
Dear Kerin,
Thank you for reporting Greylag ringed white 7TH
It was ringed 5238408 and aged as a first year female on the 13th March 2005, caught at Rowntree Park, York.
All of our re-sighting data (below) would suggest that this bird spends all of it life in York, however each June we carry out a survey of the geese, when we walk along the rivers and check all the water bodies in York and this bird has never been recorded during that survey.
Re-sighting details for this bird are shown below…….

Re: York Hols
That was a brilliant spot PPH, well done, how thrilling to be the only one to spot her this year, and That was a great response from the BTO, its nice to know that people appreciate it when you've made the effort.

Re: York Hols
I noticed the ring but had to do a bit of zooming in on the picture to make sure that I got the details of the ring correct. I replied to the email to say thank you and also sent them the picture just in case they wanted a visual record :)

Re: York Hols
How lovely to make such a contribution to her records PPH, you deserve to feel really chuffed with yourself. What a spot though to have been able to identify her ring number. Records can only be kept acurately if people help out, so well done you and as you say, yours is the only spot this year
Also how lovely to get such a nice reply back to your email as well and I bet they will love the picture you have sent them.

Re: York Hols
That's really interesting to find out PPH - even if she hasn't travelled far and is very much a 'home bird'. As WS says brilliant that your spot is the only data they have recorded for this year
