This makes a lot of sense. I often wondered how they found their mate and offspring when they returned from the sea.

Thats interesting LW. It makes a bit more sense, than just relying on each others calls, because of the noise that comes from a colonly of Penguins

Penguins do have a strong smell about them so I suppose it does make very good sense that it is smell they use to find their mates and offspring. As you say WS, a colonly of penguins is just so very noisy I think it would be impossible to find your family by call alone.
