I saw this on the BBC Nature site

Although its great to see the successes in bringing mammals back from the brink its sad to see the ones in decline especially hedgehog hedgehog

Good and Bad reading that PPH. Great to see an increase in the otters, but surprised and the severe decline in our hedgehog's.

That makes for interesting reading. I am pleased to see a rise in Water Vole populations but it is still very sad to read about the red Squirrel and the Hedgehogs. it will be wonderful if the scientists can develop a vaccine against squirrel pox. it's actually a shame that we are loosing so many of our native wildlife but with the continued efforts that are already happening, hopefully it will turn around.

As you say good, and bad. It's great that the Otter is now in every County in England, Kent being the last one just recently. The plight of our Hedgehogs has been highlighted many times recently. The problem of hedgerows in the countryside, and people fencing their gardens in, that's stopping the Hedgehogs from travelling around, and meeting potential mates. Just a small gap in every garden surround would make a big difference
