That is interesting and from the article you posted Lai, they really tried out their theory didn't they and they do seem to have been proved right. I wonder if anyone else will come up with a different theory? I never knew they had dark coats until just before they were born, I just assumed they were stripped from the start.......your always learning aren't you. Thanks WS & Lai

i believe its for camouflage..just like Tigers have stripes...camouflage for remaining hidden in tall grasses..becoz tigers are not so good in chasing down their prey and they strike in ambush for which camouflage is necessary for them...so is it with Zebras,their stripes confuses their predators...

however this was a new info to me.to protect themselves from flies..interesting....
