Dramatic Horse Rescue
Rescuers battled against the tide to rescue the horse who became trapped in quicksand-like mud on a beach in Geelong. Its owner Nicole Graham remained by 18-year-old Astro's side, holding its head above the mud as rescuers arrived at the scene.
Ms Graham said she was riding on Avalon Beach with her daughter on Monday when both their horses started sinking in the muddy sand. The smaller horse managed to get out but Astro remained stuck in the mud. With the tide rising, Nicole stayed with Astro until the local Emergency Services sedated the horse and pulled him out.
According to Jason Maxwell of Victoria State Emergency Services, rescuers had expected either the horse to have a broken leg or for Graham to be injured. "To be able to both walk out and with a couple of scratches and bruises is just a fantastic result," he said.

WOW, what a rescue but it must have been so scary for the horse and his owner, even though they both remained calm. A fantastic outcome that neither were hurt and what a devoted owner. As we have said, a great outcome but it was horrible to see the poor horse stuck in the mud, his little face looked a bit bewildered.
