Dr Matthew Linkie, Fauna & Flora International's Aceh Programme Manager, talks about conserving Sumatran tigers in Indonesia.

An interesting clip and good news story.

I agree Lai, very interesting. Though I'm not as up to speed on the Tiger as the other big cats, this looks very promising. Hopefully their efforts will prove fruitful.

How did I miss that one scratch Such great news to hear they are living peacefully and respecting the Sumatran Tiger and that with the Community Rangers some of them are ex poachers, thats a real turn around and one that could be used as I have said before with the protection of the Lions.
He spoke very passionately didn't he and in a really positive way. There were also some stunning pics of the Tiger I love you

My favourite Big Cat. Now thats how conservation for the worlds wildlife should be done, not only for the Sumatran Tiger. Key phrases, co-existance, local people benifits, help to protect live stock, government involvment, wildlife organisation involvment, laws to protect invironment, and habitat. A great model to follow, and also someone with the passion to lead like Dr Matthew Linkie
Thanks for a great story Lai

hellloo Very Happy hope all of you are doing fine...just wanted to update that the three tiger cubs are doing fine at their home..last night we saw it on tv that they are adjusting quite nicely...they have grown up now and look really cute Very Happy they even got a foster tiger mom and the milk is brought from Thailand (according to the news)!

i want to go and see them but i need my dad's help for that, since they dont allow any visitors except a reporter, who got the news.. but since we are buzy with Ramadan..will probably wait till next month :)

the people are worried about what to do with them when they will grow up..because if they let them out in the jungle, they wont know how to survive..so they still have to decide on that!

that's all for now..take care :)

Hi Zabeen

Good to hear from you and thank you for the update on the Tiger cubs, it's good to know they are doing well and growing.
How lovely if you can manage to get to go and see them, fter all the effort you have put into finding out how they are it will be so nice for you to be able to actualy see them, fingers crossed for you that it happens and please let us know if you do see them.

Yes very difficult as to what to do with them, releasing them could be very difficult unless there is someone willing to take them on into a release programme, otherwise it looks like a life in captivity.

Thanks for letting us know how the Cubs are going on Zabeen, it's great to know they are growing, and doing well. Releasing them into the wild will all depend on how much human contact they've had, it has been done in the past.
I hope you get to see them, that would be great for you, and a just reward for all the effort, and care you put into trying to help them

cannot miss a post on tiger my favorite big cat Very Happy
was bit busy for a while :)

interesting story :)

Sumatran tiger is the smallest of the tiger species as well as the critically endangered one too
found only in indonesia

like the other tigers habitat loss and poaching remain the main threats to them Sad

hopefully humans make space for them and coexist peacefully

remembered a story in the newspaper a few days back where a village in karnataka has set a example of such co existence
they beleave jus like nature give them it is their duty to provide a part of it to the wild too :)

elephants often enter their farms and destroy their crops but they consider it as their contribution to the wild and nature

and the returns are jus amazing, elephants never harm them ,no1 is ever killed as both has a respect for each other :)

yes LW ,it is very much possible to live in harmony, its all about mutual respect to a large extend!

another example is tiger B2 of bandhavgarh tiger reserve ,

the tiger reserve is surrounded by villages and co exist peacefully

Tiger B2 (he is Mohinis son and sitas gradson :) ) a notorious cattle theaf have never even attacked a single human till date :)

i am not sure if it would be crazy to say that but as far as i know it is the mutual respect humans share with tigers :)
posting a link to hav a glimpse of b2 :)

Saving Sumatra's tigers 768480 Thanks for the link Rhadu, thats a lovely tribute to B2. I have read, and seen a few videos/film of B2, and his Grandfather Charger, I'm sure thre was a documentary on BBC TV here. He certainly was a manificent speciman of a Tiger, and it does show that we can all live together.

just a small correction WS ,B2 is Mohini's son ,and grandson of Sita and Charger :)
his brother was b1 killed by poachers Sad

even his mom Mohini met with a tragic end killed by safari vehicle when she had another litter of cubs

Yes I remember Tiger Dynasty, she was moved to a new reserve along with a male - it was shown on the BBC earlier this year I think.
