Re: Happy Birthday Ronnie
Thanks again everyone for all the warm wishes! They are very appreciated! My driver finished 4th so no win but not a bad showing at all, moving him up to 3rd overall in the championship standings.

Ronnie - 4th is good, unless there were only 4 cars Seriously that's really good news.

Re: Happy Birthday Ronnie
Ha! Nice one Lai! It's 4th of 43 so not too bad. His teammate won the spring race 4th time in a row. We have two races here each year, one in the spring and one in the fall, and between the two of them one of them has won the last 7 out of 8 races. I didn't have much time before work but again I have to really express my gratitude. I look forward to getting home and checking in to see what you all have found going on in the animal world. I've found I'm interested in more than I would have thought. Hopefully I've added to the conversation, I try to. Now if everybody can get to see African Cats so we can all start blabbing! LOL!
Thanks again,
Ronnie

Re: Happy Birthday Ronnie
I can only support Lai's and Doogs's sentiments there Ronnie. It is fantastic to have you aboard and you are a valued member of the WAA band of buddies. Your contributions are greatly received and your sense of humour with all the pics just keep me smiling
The lovely thing about this forum is that it has so many different species of animals that you soon become interested in all sorts of wildlife and we can all chip in on different things and I know you have been a great help on the African cats.
You just keep doing what your doing and more importantly, keep enjoying the forum because we are enjoying having you here and as part of the team.
By the way, I have no idea what NASCAR racing is

Re: Happy Birthday Ronnie
Thanks Doogs, now I understand and it all sounds like great fun and they are huge motors by the sounds of it. I love F1 and up the road from me there is a Banger Racing track but this sounds a different level to Banger Racing, it sounds on a par with F1, maybe it is the American F1.
Thanks for the info, wonder if Ronnie has any pics of the cars he could post?

Re: Happy Birthday Ronnie
Doogs, that is a very good overview of the NASCAR series. To add to what they already said, the actual origins of the sport go all the way back to the days of Prohibition here in the States. Bootleggers had to modify their cars to not only carry and hide their illegal liquor but also outrun the Police! The fastest, best handling cars didn't get caught. When prohibition ended there were a whole lot of very good drivers who now found themselves out of work. They began to get together informally and race for bragging rights and such. Bill France, mentioned in the article posted as the founder, came up with another, legitimate, way for these drivers to earn a living and NASCAR was born. Here in VA my home track is Richmond International Raceway. It is a "short track", only 3/4 of a mile (about 1.2 KM) long D shaped track. The cars get up to about 135 mph (around 217kph).This weekend they are at Talladega Superspeedway,a 2.66mile (about 4.3KM) long high banked oval. They will get up around 205mph (around 330kph) and never let off the gas. Very different track styles, and as stated in the article very heavy, very safe cars.
My driver, Denny Hamlin's #11 FedEx Camry
A publicity photo showing Denny and the various paint schemes on his car
Finally, celebrating a victory with a burnout, then a backward lap around the track to wave to the fans.
This is the top tier Sprint Cup Series. Unlike F1 or other open wheel series, we like to say "Rubbin's Racin' " though there will be very little of that this weekend at the speeds they'll be running. When I'm not watching my Nature shows or websites, I'm watching racing or Football ( Not your kind of Football, NFL like they have at Wembley each year). Now hopefully you have a little idea of what I was talking about.

Re: Happy Birthday Ronnie
Thanks Ronnie, read this earlier this morning but didn't have time to post. It all sounds very exciting and those cars surely are magnificent, I would love to see them race and no wonder it's a sport you are really in to. Loved all the history behind it too, so thanks for that
