Notorious Poacher Caught
Notorious wildlife dealer caught red-handed in India20/08/2012 13:47:01
A suspected wildlife trafficking kingpin has been arrested in India, found in possession of a Tiger skin and other items
August 2012. A much wanted, suspected notorious illegal wildlife trader and poacher has been caught red handed carrying a Tiger skin and skeleton, two live turtles, ivory and some poaching equipment in Haryana, India.
The arrest was made in August 2012 in Gurgaon, Haryana, during a joint operation undertaken by Wildlife SOS, CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation), NTCA (National Tiger Conservation Authority), WCCB (Wildlife Crime Control Bureau) and Haryana Forest Department with assistance from the Haryana Police.
Out on bail
This is not the first time the suspect has been apprehended. He was previously arrested in 2009 in Gurgaon for possessing a Tiger skin and skeleton but was released on bail and disappeared. He has been sought in connection with a number of other cases.
MKS Pasha, Associate Director-TRAFFIC in India said that the seizure and the arrest is a major blow to the illegal wildlife trade nexus prevailing in India. This operation also clearly indicated the effectiveness of multi-agency collaborative efforts to fight wildlife crime in India.
Ravi Singh, SG&CEO-WWF-India further commented, "We would like to congratulate the enforcement agencies that directed the operation."
TRAFFIC India/WWF-India facilitated co-ordination among various agencies, along with Wildlife SOS, for effective action.
In India the Tiger is listed under Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Hunting of or trade in the species and its parts is prohibited. Most of the turtle species and ivory are also protected under the Act and cannot be traded in India.
Well done. We believe this person's name should be released to the world. Just as we showed the face of Sansar Chand all over the place, this poacher's name should be out there for all to revile.

Re: Notorious Poacher Caught
because of the stupid and liberal judicial system in my country, criminals always slip away
even terrorists like Kasab who waged a war against the country and killed hundreds still live a 5 star life!! then y say a tiger hunter
then tiger hunters caught once and left free will definitely carry on the same job of killing another tiger, coz laws are not strong

Stupid to release him on bail, if the law in India is so lax it was obvious it would happen again. I agree with naming and shaming him......and locking him up. If they had done that in the first place another Tiger would not have been killed.

Sometimes I wonder does the law that professes to protect the worlds wildlife care as much as 'Joe Bloggs' in the street!!!

I have to say I'm a little more harsh than you guys when it comes to poachers. I think they really ought to be shot on sight and then we are all spared of having to worry about failures of the legal system like this. The people that do these things are simply breathing air I could be breathing and I have no use for them on this planet. I know you don't have the death penalty there, but we do here and this guy deserves it. Just my opinion, but the only way to be sure he doesn't kill again is to rid the world of his sorry existence.

yes Ronnie, i agree these people should be dealt with strictly, but here only rarest of rare murders get death sentence , that too can be limited to life imprisonment if president or Govt wants, that means crimes like these will be dealt with less importance sadly

Re: Notorious Poacher Caught
We dont have the Death Penalty in the UK and there are many times when I think we should, but there's always the thought that an injustice could happen, and someone dies when they are not guilty. But life should be life, because if there's a miscarrige of justice, at least it can be put right, and in cases like poaching that should be the punishment. India is not on its own regarding stupid bail releases. We've had far to many cases here, where offenders have been released, and gone on to kill, or seriously maim, and damage others.

yes WS even i beleave that even if thousand guilty escapes one innocent shouldn't be punished
even i don't want death penalty to them, but strict laws to deal with them, just now watched a documentary and realized how poachers have high level sophisticated network and determined minds to destroy wildlife while government watches doing nothing or in some cases helping them that is what is disgusting!!
of course there are some govt officials ,wildlife conservationists and nature lovers who put a tough resistance against these huge network of poachers but in the end most of them end up trapped in some way or the other
with the dwindling forest and wild life these soft approach against poachers wont work !
and we've reached a situation where we need to protect them at any cost .
