Conservationists are in the Dominican Republic to save one of the world's strangest and most ancient mammals - the Hispaniolan solenodon.

After days of searching, the team finally tracks down one of the bizarre beasts.

A shout from the forest sounds, bursting through the night chorus of frog tinks and cricket chirrups.

What an amazing read and find SM, I havent had time this morning to look at the video clips but I will when I get in from work. Thanks for posting this, i've never heard of them before.

Just finally caught up with this again SM, its an amazing little creature, I thought it had similarities with the Mole but they dont seem to say so but loved the video clips, poor guy who got nibbled though, I do hope they don't become extinct, it would be such a shame. Glad I found this one again to watch the footage.
