Pesticides harming our Bees
An interesting article but it's good to know that if their is further evidence that this does decline the bees health, changes will be made.

Re: Pesticides harming our Bees
We need to look after our bees so let's hope for a positive outcome with the research.

I hope so too Lai and it's good news that they are taking this seriously because yes, our Bees do need protecting very much.

Re: Pesticides harming our Bees
Without bees everything fails, no pollination, well I suppose artificially only so they need 100% protection and looking after.
Pesticides do so much harm, if only we could be organic and natural - like it used to be!

Re: Pesticides harming our Bees
Wouldn't that be lovely if we could be natural and organic like it was. Trouble is we are a generation that want everything to last longer, be bigger, more colourful and want things out of season, gone are the days where certain fruits and veg were eaten at certain times of the year, it could also be cost as its cheaper to mass produce than to grow naturally and to throw away what the bugs have devoured. I may have got that wrong but as you say, Pesticides do so much damage.
This is hard to be 100% certain but the vet was convinced. I had a little Maine Coon boy quite a few years ago that I took from a friend to take care of ( she did give him to me). She lives in the country and her garden backed onto farm land. She bred Maine Coons and her Queen and Stud mated in her outside run which was right at the edge of her garden behind a hedge that backed onto the farmers field. The day they mated the farmer sprayed his field with Pesticide. The Queen went to term with her pregnancy and it only ended in a litter of two which is very unusual. One kitten was born dead and little Mattie had one eye, a hair lip and a compressed skull on one side, he was not expected to survive, but survive he did, he was such a fighter and had a zest for life. I had him from 12 weeks old until he sadly died at 8 months and he was truely the most adorable, affectionate and glorious cat, he didn't know he was different and he lived his life to the full with my other cats and Bentley. He died from an epileptic fit that couldn't be stopped. He remains in my heart and thoughts all the time.
Anyway, what I am saying is, the vet could find no reason as to why he was born this way, there was nothing genetic in his pedigree on either side the vet felt very strongly that it was due to his mum inhaling large quantities of pesticide, it had damaged the foetus but he had continued to develop and against all the odds, survived.
My little Mattie was truely a and I was blessed to have him but hence why I hate Pesticides so much.

Re: Pesticides harming our Bees
I'm really sorry to read that Littlewid, no doubt pesticides cause a lot more damage than we realise. At least you gave Mattie 8 wonderful months with love and care.
Strangely I've just got my e-mail from 38 Degress so thought I would post the link here.

Thanks Lai, petition signed and shared on FB as well. I must say that the number of signers is brilliant, they are nearly at their target

That's great news Littlewid, i've also e-mailed my MP. I had 3 replies from him on previous issues on return from Kenya so at least he takes note!

Re: Pesticides harming our Bees
Pesticides do so much unseen damage, and as Lai says if there are no Bees then everything will have to be artificialy pollenated, and that will take thousands of hrs, and greatly increase the cost of food production. Just signed the petition its at 85,028. Thanks for the story LW, and the Link Lai

but ....
shame on the UK and how B****y typical!
Lai
but ....
The UK did not support a ban - it argues that the science behind the proposal is inconclusive. It was among eight countries that voted against, while four abstained

Re: Pesticides harming our Bees
I saw this on the news today it does appear vital for the future of Bees in the UK, but it seems from a few reports that some Beekeepers are against it. I think its to do with farmers going back to useing old pesticides that are not banned
