Great video (Sabi Sands Londolozi, Mapogo and Majingilane)
Couldn't find anything on here about the Mapogo coalition, who I have followed for some time. I don't know how much any of you know about them but I am sure you have heard of them. Very similar to the coalition of Notch and his sons the Mapogo ruled in the Londolozi game reserve of the Sabi Sands for a long time, brutal, dominant and magnificent.
Anyway this is a video I had not seen before about the Majingilane Coalition taking over and the downfall of the Mapogos. The video is very nicely made and beautifuly edited, a great watch if you have not seen it.

Thanks for that RaD, cant say I'm familiar with them, but the names ring a bell, it could be from a couple of the live web cams we watch on here Africam 24/7, and Petes Pond on Wildearth TV in Sabi Sanda, and Duma. Will check the Video out,

Just watched it RaD what a great mini documentary. It's not nice to see the Males fight in take overs, but it is the way of Lions, and Lion Pride life, as the commentary said lets not put our human interpretation on what happens with Lions, but except them for what they are. That closing sequence made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Just the sheer power of it.
Thanks for sharing that RaD

Thanks RaD for the link. From the sounds of it, it may be a bit harsh and although you don't really know me, I don't do harsh. I know take overs are real life and happen for a reason but my heart doesn't do well with the realities of animal life when it ll gets a bit rough and tough.
I am happy to read about the Prides though as I don't know much about them.

hey littlewid you are quite right these lions weren't the most playful around, perhaps this documentary is not for you. They have a pretty serious reputation, some of the things they are known to have done make Notche's boys look cute.

here is a brief history of the Mapogos and the prides, for those interested (maybe not for you still littlewid, as they have done very little that wasn't brutal)
There is a lot of additional information in the comments too.
They really were a force of nature.

Thanks RaD, they do sound a force to be reckoned with and if they make Notches boys look cute, they must be pretty bad. I know others on here will read and be able to accept and deal with the realities, I know they will find things upsetting but a lot are better able to deal with the harshness of a big cats life.......I am just a whimp I will have to pick my way through the nice bits that members post.
I am grateful for the warning on the link RaD otherwise I would have blundered in to read it and then had a sleepless night.

Fascinating reading RaD thanks. Their lives, and actions have been really well recorded, and documented, and as you say from the reports they have been seriously bad boys. The number of Lions, Females, and Cubs killed, is really high, especialy when you take into account they they have killed Cubs of each other within the coalition. As I said about the Notchs, coalitions of this size, and power, are not really good for Lion numbers overall, but that's the nature of the beast. I do'nt think that there has been a study , or record of how many have been killed by the Notchs. One thing that does spring to mind when you think about it, is how amazing it was for Romeo, and Clawed to hang onto the Marsh Pride for as long as they did.
