Re: Summer Watch 2010
OK managed my mission this morning, decided not to go into town but went to Goring Beach which is just down the road from my mum. Thought about what pictures to take and decided upon good old seaside pictures, trying to capture the essence of our local part of the beach.
First Lot.....typical reading the newspaper on the beach.
It was so hot down there and the beach was very busy, so thank heavens for the good old Sealane Cafe, it's been there years and started out as a very tiny hut, its a bit bigger now.
Another thing that Goring Beach has is loads of Beach Huts, I would love one, this family is lucky enough to have one and were enjoying a good day out.
How typical, go for a day out at the beach and hubby falls asleep reading his paper.
Think these people may have been planning to stay the night
The Break Waters are always popular with people as they offer a little shelter from the wind
I met a lovely Fisherman whilst I was down there, I will post those pictures later.

Lovely Photos LW I parked on our Beach this afternoon with the Add Van I drive. It was really good everyone enjoying the Unfortunately you have to climb over a load of rocks that are there for sea defence to get to the sand on the beach, there is also a cycle track that runs for miles in both directions that was built to celebrate the millenium, and it's really well used by cyclists, and walkers.
Cant understand that Man falling asleep, surely it was opening time when you took the pics

Re: Summer Watch 2010
Lai those are simply stunning photos, what a day you must have had, I would love to visit there but its along way off from the South Coast.
Those carvings were amazing, just beautiful and the water lilies and fushia I just love and wouldnt mind standing under that water fall, how spectacular is that.
Your little pond skater I have always known as Boatman, are they different or have I always named them wrongly
Thank you for posting those, I really enjoyed them, a good start to the day.

It is a stunning garden, they put so much effort into it and it is constantly evolving
Yes, Water boatmen are more chunky in their body and Pond Skaters have a thiner body and finer legs (bad description i know)
The garden has a lot of wood carvings done with a chainsaw but i thought that was the best as when you looked round it you found more little things, like rabbits

Re: Summer Watch 2010
That description is good enough for me Lai, now i should be able to spot the difference.
Just loved the rabbits on the carvings, it's all very clever isn't it. It certainly shows they put alot of effort into the garden. Gardens are so relaxing aren't they, even in essence that they are very busy places with all the flowers etc they have a good feeling of tranquility.

Re: Summer Watch 2010
Here is the second lot of my seaside pictures from saturday, remember I said I met a nice fisherman, well he was dead keen to have his picture taken and his boat. All along the seafront from Worthing to Goring you can buy fresh fish caught on the day at all these little fish stalls and the fishermen are always keen to chat.
My friendly fisherman
This is his boat, you can see boats like this all along the seafront
All the colourful boxes used for fishing
Typical Goring picture, boat, fish boxes and someone camping on the beach
Hosing down the shop after a good days catch and sell
Advertise your business, he had the St George cross flying on his pole but I couldnt get it in.
Mmmmmm who was camping out
That was Saturday, Lai posted some gorgous pics on saturday too.

Wonderful photos Littlewid. Lovely to see the fisherman going about his business and the sun was shining - not so much fun in the lashing rain i imagine great to see no litter and rubbish, obviously a tidy fisherman it's always interesting to see what goes on along the beach.
Thanks for posting.

Fantastic Pics both of you, did you get a boat ride LW ? Those pics of the wood carving are Brill Lai. There's a couple on the Caravan Park where Mrs S works. A Dragon, and an Eagle I must take a Pic of them.

Re: Summer Watch 2010
Took some more pictures today, here is a lovely tree lined walk, I love this walk.
This is a huge tree, my mum said its a Red Acer, i'm not sure if they grow this huge but its a gorgous tree and i'm always drawn to it.
And a very rustic little bird nesting house
They were all taken at our crematorium, not morbid at all, its a wonderful place that is huge on conservation of the wildlife that lives there and also all its trees and flowers. It's such a beautiful place thats right out in the country you do forget where you are. I was looking for birds and rabbits and squirrels today and the pheasant that hangs around but none of them were about today and neither was Ashley the cat....too hot I suppose.

Re: Summer Watch 2010
Lovely photos Littlewid - i love the avenue of trees. I think the tree in the second photo is a Copper Beech but i could be wrong. The bird box is so sweet looking, i hope the birds appreciate it. Often crematoriums have the most amazing wildlife. I guess it's because it's so peaceful there.
Thanks for posting Littlewid.

That really looks such a peaceful place LW, such a lovely change from some of the Crematoriums I've seen. Love the nest box it's really inkeeping with the habitat, and that is great tree I can see why your drawn to it

Bullfinch
Whilst i was filling up all the bird feeders this little Bullfinch came in to land. Looking at it i think it is a young one and had far too much in it's mouth. The goldfinch came over to see what was happening but flew off way too quickly seeing me. For some reason the young Bullfinch wasn't bothered at all by me or the bags of bird food lying on the grass.
It started raining again so i gave up ...........

Re: Summer Watch 2010
Great shots Lai, I think your right the young ones look so fluffed up they seem larger than the parents. We've noticed that on our feeder the parenys are getting the food to feed to the young, but the young look twice as big. The Bullfinch looked as thought it was getting closer, and closer as thought it would jump on your lens next. Thanks for letting us see them

Sweet peas have such a lovely scent don't they and they are such a delicate looking flower, I love them.
Loving the bees, they are definiately a sign of summer aren't they. Even though it was wet and windy in Cheshire today Lai they are wonderful pictures.

Lai I am over the moon, at long last we get to see the fish, the wonderful pregnant guppys, bless them and I just love Tetra. I am so pleased you pointed your camera at the tank, we need more fish photo's on here and you have a wonderful assortment of fish and they are obviously Petes pride and joy.
Thank you so much for posting them, i'm smiling

Re: Summer Watch 2010
Littlewid you are very kind they are awful photos as Pete's lovely little selection of fish don't stay still ever, and i had my camera on all the wrong settings for sure. But i will practice tomorrow and see if i can get some of the others that live on the bottom.
They are all so gorgeous to watch and as we have an explosion of Guppy babies at the moment it's a hub of activity!

Loved those shots Lai, The one of the Bee on the Sweet Pea is a stunner and it makes a nice change to see some fish. Perhaps you should try it with a snorkel the shots might be clearer then
