I have heard about how detrimental Whale Watching tourism can be to bring tourist to unspoilt places on this earth, but I have just read an article on how Whale Watching is a good thing as 'the findings boost arguments that the marine mammals are worth more alive than dead'.

What do you think? Is this a catch 22 situation?

This is the article that got be thinking.

Mmmmm an interesting one, as you say i think it's catch 22.

Everything in moderation perhaps. Well in this instance anyway.

Its good that they are now viewing whales differently and looking at the conservation of them to in turn increase countries revenue, I think that spositive for both the whales and the people, the caviat to this is that yes they could disturb the breeding sites and drive the whale away to somewhere less suitable and this could harm populatations. I suppose a line would need to be drawn as to how safe is safe so as not to disturb the whales but still be close enough to satisfy the whale watchers, common sense needs to prevail and not to put one species above another.......Human gain v whale loss or whale gain v Human loss.
But how nice it's turning things around for the whales.
