Why take part?

Bird populations are a great indicator of the health of the countryside. That's why it's so important to take part in surveys like the Big Garden Birdwatch to keep an eye on the ups and downs of the wildlife where we live.

All you need to do is spend an hour over the weekend of 25-26 January counting the birds in your garden. It's that simple!

The more people involved, the more we can learn. So, grab a cuppa and together we can all help to give nature a home.

I've done my hour and a strange hour indeed with the weather dipping between sunshine and thunder so not an average hour and therefore an unusual tally of birds.  Some of our regulars weren't regular and the Goldfinches who normally number at least 15 trying to get to the feeder at any one time were well down.

24 blue tits
2 male chaffinch
1 female chaffinch
13 coal tits
7 goldfinch
22 great tits
2 greenfinch
30 long tailed tits (flew over)
2 robins
1 woodpigeon
3 greater spotted woodpeckers
1 raven
1 red legged partridge
1 pheasant
3 buzzards

Off for a cup of tea after that

a bit of a slow day for me in my hour

and our friendly Wood Pigeon

I managed to get it done before a deluge and thunderstorm hit

I did mine today as well as tomorrow is supposed to be heavy rain and 80mph winds

I had visiting

4 starlings
One Pigeon
1 Male Blackbird

But it hasn't been brilliant here today so I wasn't surprised

I don't know about you Littlewid and PPH but I haven't been able to submit my results yet and the site is down, perhaps that's a good sign that lots and lots of people are taking part this year.

Anyway, I am sure it will be up and running again soon.

I haven't been able to do mine either yet, same problem so i'm going to try tomorrow. I reckon it is because so many have taken part which is just great.

 Thats some number of species and Birds, our numbers are well done as I have not been able to put our feeder back up after all the winds, and our numbers have been really down since then.

and the forecast tomorrow is terrible for here as well

I eventually managed to submit my results last night about 10.30pm they mustve been really busy

Due to the weather this morning     it was terible high winds and rain, and the fact we went out this afternoon we have not seen any Birds at all today, so no result to get through
