Those figures are frightening, but what I find really frightening is some of the terminology, ads suspicions of what's happening in Zoos. The end of a animals useful life, what is that supposed to mean. Is the end of it's useful life to the Zoo in attracting visitors to the Zoo, because it's to old. It also sounds to me as though Zoos are breeding to create new born animals, because they are a bigger attraction, and will increase visitor numbers, and that is causing an over population of Zoo animals. Yes it's good to breed for conservation, and release, but there seems no real plans for release programmes that complement the the breeding system. I think there should be a big investigation into what's going on.

More shocking news from another zoo  Crying or Very sad  Mad  Sad  Evil or Very Mad   . . . .

Animal group furious after Swiss zoo has bear cub put down 'to spare it any distress'
because its father began to bully it

Cub was among two born to Misha and Masha at Dahlholzli Zoo in Bern
The bears were donated by Russian president Dmitry Medvedev in 2009
Fears were raised after 'jealous' male Misha killed cub's twin last week
When Misha started acting the same way to other cub, the zoo intervened
Welfare group: Was 'more than enough space' to keep the bear separate

That is disgusting. As far as I am aware cubs should only be with thier Mothers who bring them up. The Males normaly play no part, and in fact they are a danger to cubs father or not. So this situation never have arisen in the first place. The father should have been separated from the cubs before they were born. If the zoo had no room for the separation of the father, or cub, surely another zoo could have been found
