Re: She's mine!!!!
That was some battle for dominance. Interestingly the female had a nip at the back end of the Male with the darker mane, and they re supposed to be more attracted to the darker mane males as they hare reputed to have stronger genes. Can't tell from the pics which one she was with first.
See what trouble you Girls cause with us fellers
Thanks for sharing LW

Good thing the intruding lion was defeated - imagine being disrupted while being on the job - very rude indeed.
Interestingly females accept any adult male regardless of dominance.
They have something called delayed ovulation that may be a mechanism designed to give the dominant male time to track her down thereby displaying the inferior male to ensure propagation of the best genes.

Yes very rude indeed Chris
Delayed ovulation is the same with domestic felines, it's often three matings before the female conceives and generally then you can work out exactly when the kittens are due........big cats little cats.....seems to be the same where new additions are involved.
It probably is the same with feral cats so that the kittens have the strongest genes to survive whereas in pedigree cats you are mating for the strongest type to that breed......but I suppose thats all the same.
